Hi Lulu, I am Margaret. I've had 60% of my pancreas, spleen and gall bladder removed. As you know the surgery was hell, but we did recover. The after effects left me feeling very tired. I am a hypoglycemic. Still, having your pancreas totally removed you must have had cancerous polyps all through the head and tail and body of the pancreas.

I had my pancreas, spleen, gall bladder, a bit of bile duct and some small intestine removed on April 13th this year. I was talking six hours after, walking in 20 hours. I was back at work part time in a little over three week. I would change you diet ASAP prior to surgery, exercise as much as you can, this is really important. I will say a bit more later, if you have any specific questions. It has not been easy but, I am working though everything.

They are Islet cells and I am in the process of getting to the surgery now due to a genetically calcified pancreas. My mother and brother have both died of pancreatic cancer and I'm hoping not to, as well.

Hi Maureen,
Did you have the Islet Cell transplant, as well? If not, how are you maintaining your insulin levels - if so, how is that working out for you? this is a difficult decision to make. i am very concerned about my quality of life if I have only the Pancreatectomy done. Just gathering information here., I need to be prepared. THANKS and BEST TO YOU!!!! :)

Was wondering how you are doing now. My mom is having the same procedure (part of pancreas, spleen & GB) on Tuesday & we are researching the after affects, which I know varies from person to person..

Thank you for your concern. It was my husband that had his GB and later, what was left of his pancreas was removed. There was too much damage and after a year he passed away. He had an amazing team of doctors but he continually had severe infections. The final cause of death was sepsis. I want to be truthful about my husband's health issues with the hope others will take heed. The main reason this happened was excessive drinking and smoking. He was was told early on to stop but chose not to. Take care, please. Be strong and take medical advice very seriously.

I am 54 with a genetic heart disease called IHSS. Was living a very healthy life with exercise and food and happiness for many years. No drinking or smoking and no medications. A couple years into menopause started to have extreme bad problems with my pancreas and side effects from that which included my heart beating up to 180 per minute because of the stress physically on my heart. Was diagnosed with a mucin cyst in the tail of my pancreas in 2011. Had a cardiac arrest and stroke in 2013 of October because of the stress on my body. Now have a baseball size black spot in my brain, pacemaker/defibrillator, on Sotalol and warfarin medication and partially blind in my left eye. Thankfully, I'm alive, have my mind and speech back to almost normal because of being positive and a lot of work . In 2014 had the tail of my pancreas taken out along with my spleen and four lymph nodes because of having a mucin cyst which was why I was having the pancreas problems. It took quit a while for me to get back up and on my feet but I'm doing pretty good except I go thru many swings negative physically which can lead to anxiety. I find it goes away if I take another enzyme sometimes I need medication. Have to take prescribed enzymes each time I eat, eat small meals about every two hours and some times I need to take up to 4 enzymes. BY the way, none of the doctors shared any information on what I could experience- had to do all the research on my medical problems to figure this all out. Just getting over the flu that's taken over two weeks, which has left my pancreas not happy. Took a big hit physically and now am in afib again. Will need to go in and get my heart little shock to get me back in rhythm. My heart goes in and out of atri fibrilation because of different reason which all have to do with the stress on my body. Anybody have any good information for me to help me to deal with all this. Have stomach pains frequently, take pain pills to help, stay positive and lots of enzymes.
Besides getting a bit beat up physically- I live a good and happy life. Wish the same for all of you.
Blessings
Namaste

Hello I'm a 41yo male. Had a TP and TS in 2008. I was a severe alcoholic before the ordeal. Became even worse afterwards until Sept 2015. It has not been easy. I will call it Totally Consuming, but it is better than the alternative. Have nearly a decade of brittle type 1 complications under my belt and now sober, must say I'm still kickin. Unbelievable what the body can do. Got lots more. Mike.

I am currently living without a spleen and half of pancreas for almost 20 yrs now and my blood glucose has always been fine and my immune system as well. I just hate how something small can make me sick and others are okay & feeling fine.
