I was diagnosed with a lisfranc injury, met with a Duke Orthopedic surgeon, and was scheduled for repair yesterday. Unfortunately, the doctor noticed my limping with my good leg and he ordered an MRI on that knee to discover I had a torn meniscus. INstead of operating in my Lisfranc he repaired the knee so when I do get the Lisfranc surgery, I will have a good leg to stand on. I have very little pain and I am very happy that I am not suffering with this knee anylonger.
He will schedule the Lis. surgery in about 6 weeks. He said there is about a 4 mm. displacement. I have walked on it for aobut 8 months and he said he could even wait as long as I wanted before doing the surgery. He said he would build an orthotic aid for me and I could continue to manage. I think I should go ahead and get the surgery done.
He will use screws and a metal plate across the top of the foot to being the bones back to the right position. He said the plate and screws will be permanent. If the screws back out, he will then remove them. He said there will be little nerve damage although some could occur on the top of my foot resulting in some numbness.
I guess this all sounds in order but I don't know how to get input. This is my third doctor, the first two missing the injury. Please share your thoughts on the plate, the surgery, waiting to do it, etc. Thank you very much.
