I suffered a lisfranc exactly 2wks ago, and luckly got picked up in the x-ray right away. I haven't been weight bearing on it at all (couldn't if I tried) and have been in a cam boot. A brief review of the literature shows that these things don't heal well on their own (backed by all of you on this site) and that surgery is usually indicated with a separation of 2mm or more. My separation is 1.8mm (which seems pretty close to 2.0mm) and normally one would think "Woohoo! I don't need surgery." I'm not so sure. I am an active guy and don't want to lose that. I know that surgery is best if done in the first two weeks. My HMO orthopedist wants to play the conservative route. I'm going to buck up and pay privately for a 2nd opinion from a specialist. I know there are always risks with surgery, but with this injury, it seems like there are some pretty goods risks without it. I would appreciate feedback either way. Thanks for the support.
