I suffer from a condition called locked thumb. I didn’t even know this is possible until I experienced the pain and strange clicking sensations. I saw my GP and he diagnosed me with this. He gave me a cortisone injection. I would like to know how on Earth has this happened to me?

The same thing happened to my brother a few years ago, so I did a little research on it. It appears that it comes to a thickening in the tendon that forms a nodule. Usually, the pulley ligament thickens as well. The constant irritation from the tendon repeatedly sliding through the pulley causes the tendon to swell in this area and create the nodule. Rheumatoid arthritis, or partial tendon lacerations, as well as long hours grasping a steering wheel can cause triggering. Unfortunately, cortisone injections are shortly lived.
