I was getting epidural injections and on the 3rd one the doctor must have hit the nerve with the needle (Lumbar) I started having severe pain in my calf. Went to a neurosurgeon who said that the doctor hit the nerve with the needle. I ended up with back surgery. the neurosurgeon said that when he got in, the nerve was swollen and a reddish/purple color. When he started the surgery to give the swollen nerve room he said it immediately turned the grayish color that it was supposed to be. He also said that the doctor who did it owed me an apology. I have been in constant excruciating pain now for weeks. I had the surgery Sept 9th but my calf still hurts and lately my left foot has been numb and I can't raise my toes very high. this is all on my left leg. I take gabapentin but still have the horrible pain. I wish I knew how long it would take for the nerve to heal. This has really messed my life up. This doctor does his injections at Eclipse Surgery Ctr In Bedford, Tx. Don Enty, M.D. is his name. I wish I had never gone to him.

The same thing happened to me I would describe when the doctor hit my nerve as being struck by lighting. My right leg was under my left in a fetal position an it went flying out from underneath me. It felt like it had burnt a hole all the way thru the bottom of my foot. I'm hoping the pain will gradually go away but it hasn't as of yet...I also got the awful headaches aprox 24-30 hrs after the Lp everytime I would try to sit up. Only relief I would get was laying back down flat on my back. Yet nothing helped with the right leg peg

I had 3 spinal taps within a few months. This was done in 2012-2013. The first was laying on my side in the fetal position Along with the second & the third was done by X-RAY. To this day (4/14/15) i still have terrible back pain. Especially if im sitting & try to relax my back. Or laying on my stomach & try to relax my back. When i try to do either, my lower back hurts & trembles. Also if i bend over for to long or do things like sweep & mop for a long time. Anyone else ? please help.

I also have pseudotumor. I had a LP last week Monday and it went fine. That night headaches so bad.... Thursday the blood patch. This guy didnt warn me when he was starting and i jumped really bad and he hit something. I'm guessing a nerve. I'm in sooooo much pain. My dr. Just says it. Get better in time. He doesnt get it that i can barely move and cry constantly in pain.

I had a c section on New Year's Eve. They made two attempts numbing me from the waist down. Every time she knock me out of position and my right side would go limp. Almost a year later I've returned to work (I stand, lift and walk 7 and half to 8 hrs a day five days a week) I am feeling that exact pain from waist down to my ankle on my right side whenever I walk and move for long periods of time. Could this be a problem from the two failed attempts at numbing me during my c section?

they shrug it off cuz they all cover for each other instead of sending you to a good lawyer cuz they probably know its screwed and you cant fix it. so they might as well all collect instead off of your misery.

Wonder how you would feel if your life was turned upside down by a simple procedure Dave.

You're right. I would like to hear of anyone who successfully sued for medical negligence.

I had the same thing happen to me. Four failed attempts (one that made my head hurt so bad I have never experienced that type of pain!!!) and they did it via X-ray to avoid damaging any more! And here I am 3 years later with horrible lower back pain and problems. Fortunately it isn't debilitating yet, but I've always been really active and it is annoying to have to deal with all this pain!!!

The few that don't go off without a hitch? Look at all these replies! Obviously it's more than a few! I had 16 LP during my chemo and my back has been screwed for 5 years now. Maybe if you had one done and had long term pain results like "the few" of us writing it up all over the Internet you'd be a little more sympathetic.

Dave's post upset me too, I came here because I had a myelogram 4 months ago for a failed neck surgery and the were doing it as an exploratory procedure to map their strategy for my next surgery. As if I wasn't in enough pain already with my neck they hit a nerve in in my lower back during the procedure leaving me in debilitating pain. I manage a top real estate office and have a very successful home business that requires my work days to normally be around 14 hours per day. By the time I sit in my chair all day at work I can barely walk when I get home. I normally get through cooking dinner shifting the weight from leg to leg and am in tears by the time its over because I can barely stand. There just aren't enough words to express how angry I am that I have been left in this condition and from everything I read it appears it can last for years. I have appointment with my PM doc tomorrow and the nuerosurgeon that ordered the procedure June 20 to try and get help. It seems pretty rare something like that happens but in my case it did. I am in more pain with the nerve damage than I am from the failed neck surgery. I refuse to be a statistic and not be able to work and do the things I love. Sounds like in his opinion if you are "fat" it is your own fault if you get messed up for life due to the negligence of others and that we shouldn't whine about it online if we do! I am 5'5' and weigh 160 pounds, no I am not skinny but I am by no means FAT either! I'm just looking for support and answers, this whole experience has been life changing for me.

How did they diagnose your nerve root damage?

I have the same problem... I had only 5 holes done but its been 2 + months and I've been diagnosed with neuropathy that was caused by nereve damage. Im scheduled to have an EMG in a few days the confirm it's nurve damage. My first 4 holes were done by a med intern on his first week in neuro department
