I have been having changing pain for the past 3 weeks. It started with a sharp stabbing pain while walking in the middle of my shoulder blades (more to the left). It lasted a couple of days and massage and meds didn't help. Then just as suddenly a few days later my left lower back was painful - almost pinched nerve feeling but with no radiating. That too lasted a few days and didn't respond to massage, hot water or meds. Then a few days after that went away the top of my right shoulder started aching while I was reading a book on my couch. That progressed over the course of the day to both shoulders (on the top/deltoid area) and to my groin, primarily on the right side so that lifting my legs became painful in the groin and I needed to actually lift them with my arms. And lifting my arms or reaching behind me is very painful, almost impossible. I have chronic pain, burning and fatigue in my shoulders. It is MUCH worse at night while trying to sleep - overtly painful. So I don't really sleep. I don't know if I'm tired constantly from the lack of sleep or as yet another symptom of whatever is going on. I saw a nurse practicioner today that is sure it's a muscle strain and prescribed muscle relaxers and phys therapy. The muscle relaxers don't work - I'm just as painful as I am without them. Also Aleve, Advil, Naproxen, Percoset and Vicodin do not alleviate the pain. I am HIGHLY frustrated and do not agree that it's a muscle strain since I don't recall doing anything out of the norm when it comes to lifting, straining, stretching, etc. And why such varied symptoms for so long before landing in my shoulders and groin? I could use all the help I can get!!

You need to see a doctor rather than a nurse practitioner. A doctor is better trained than a nurse to diagnose illnesses. In the meantime, I suggest taking aspirin to treat possible inflammation and blood clots.
