Then the bleeding started.. at the beginning it was very brown old looking blood, and then eventually it became more redder and the then heavier with clots and all.. It is day 19 now and am still bleeding im going through a pack of pads in a day almost.. went back to my doctor and she just said to be patient and wait for it to clean me out and then hopefully the periods will be back to normal.. Just from reading the posts on here it seems to be the irregular bleeding after removal is a normal thing!! did any one else go through this? I would like the doctors to investigate the bleeding and not just stop the bleeding too.. also another thing was after i had the mirena removed I have also put on weight?? has this happened to anyone else? the doctor seems to think its not related but it just seems to be that since i've had the mirena removed all these hormonal issues have come up.. would love to hear from any one else who haws had these effects too? any suggestions would be gladly appreciated Im going slightly mad!!!

I had my Mirena for 5 y ears and loved it. I had 5 years without a period and could not be happier. I had it put in due to my heavy menstal cycle. I went in to request an oblasion (sp?) but my dr. recommended I try the Mirena. My 5n years were up in August so I had it removed some time in July. I have been bleed ever since. I started bleeding the very next day. I bled for a couple of weeks then it stopped for about 4 days. I thought, "ok, I'm getting back to normal." Oh, no, not so. A few days later I started bleeding again and it lasted for two months. I finally made an appointment with my doctor and wouldn't you know, two nights before my appointment I stopped bleeding. When I went in to see the dr. she said there were no traces of blood. She decided to do a test for endometreosis (sp?), have an a couple of ultrasounds done, and also mentioned hysterectomy. Oh yah, when they were doing the test for endometreosis the instrument they used got stuck under or around my uterus and they had to go in and dislodge it. I was in horrible pain for the next three days.
Anyway, it's been 3 days since the dr visit and 5 days since I stopped bleeding and wouldn't you know it, I started bleeding again. I think I lost one of my organs, if not two of them in the last few hours. I don't know what to do and I can't imagine bleeding anymore. I am not having menstrul type symptoms, just bleeding and mostly clots or large masses of blood coming out at once. Everytime I go to the bathroom the first thing I say is, "c**p, where's all this coming from?"

Thanks for the info...I found it to be very comforting that I am not the only one bleeding to death!I am 49 and had my mirena taken out since almost 7 years of it being in. I have been bleeding for 10 days straight and heavy with clots. In between I went back to doctor and he did ultrasound and says its my period. Went to ER (day10) tonight and ER doctor says its normal as well. She told me to see doctor in the morning and he will do another ultrasound. Maybe I will getthe mirena in again, cause I did well with it...I can't go through this every month. Thanks again for sharing.

Hi this is my exact story had mines in for 5 years removed it and I have been bleeding for 45 days!!!!! It will stop for 2 days then starts back up heavy and tons of clots. I can't take this anymore and all the doctors want to do is prescribe me more toxins to put in my body. When did your bleeding stop ?

did your bleeding eventually stop or did you have the mirenna coil replaced? i would love to know, i am just turning 50 and had my mirenna coil removed last week & have had yukky brown blood ever since. I too am thinking of having another put back in
