I currently have the Mirena IUD, and the threads are poking and scratching my boyfriend during sex, making it painful for him. I have heard that trimming the threads may help, but he's pretty well-endowed, and I have the feeling it wouldn't help so much. Plus, then I wouldn't be able to check the threads to make sure it's still in place. I heard that they soften up over time, but I don't know how long that will take. I did some reading, and i'm thinking maybe a diaphragm may help? I mean, it covers the cervix so he wouldn't feel the threads, but I'm just worried about the possibility of tugging on the threads. I can't find anything on the internet about it. I don't plan on using spermicide with it, because I already have effective birth control, I just want to cover up the threads so he can be comfortable during sex. Can anyone tell me whether or not this would be a good thing to try?

I'm not sure about the diaphragm however I saw my doctor due to this and I could also feel the threads they adjusted them for me I believe they pushed the threads up further.

I've had the Mirena for almost 5 years in January it will be time to get it out and my boyfriend still feels it so I don't know bout it softning up but I know if you tell your doctor they can cut the string so that he won't feel it maybe as much or at times
