I had to preconceived notions about this movie. My wife put it in the Netflix queue and we got and watched it yesterday.

As with a lot of Will Smith movies, there's at least one scene of Will without a shirt. For you ladies, this may well be worth the price of the rental alone. Will has put in some serious gym time. 8O

The story revolves around Del Spooner (Will) being a paranoid robot hater in the year 2035. (In the year 2035, we'll laugh at how stupid they made the future look in this movie. There's no way we'll make those kind of advancements in 30 years) There are three laws that govern robots and all of the guarantee that robots will never commit a crime or harm a human being.

So the scientist that was an integral part of robot development suddenly commits 'suicide' and Will thinks it's a robot that killed him. That's the whole premise of the movie.

As far as the story line goes, it's weak in spots and ridiculous in others (i.e. spray on skin? :umno: ), BUT the special effects are stunning and the camera work is FANTASTIC--probably on par with anything from the Matrix series if not better.

For sci-fi action, this movie is worth it. Add it to your queue today. For a touching story line, you'd be better off renting something with Mary Steenburgen in it.

PS - Can someone tell me how the same guy that played Steve the Pirate in the Dodgeball movie also played the part of the lead robot? I'm lost on that aspect of it.

We watched this movie over the weekend. I agree with pretty much everything you said. It's worth watching, but not fantastic or anything. I don't know anything about the actor that played the robot. I just assumed that was some kind of animation they threw in there.
