So had THD done today..currently sat on bed on my side.. Pain does feel like a really bad flare up..pressure and full feeling..not pleasant. Been given codamol paracetamol and lactolose..my bum hole currently looks a Black on one side ..not sure if it's bruising or the hems are thrombosed from the sutering. Anyone else experienced this after the op??

It's really hasn't been so bad..I went back work yesterday..had he thd on Thursday so I'm 6 days in..driving is a little uncomfortable but pretty similar to when I had the hems. Going the toilet twice a day..burns a bit but not too bad..hopefully in a few weeks my hems will be a distant memory..really if your in a bad way with them do it..much rather have this than the traditional!

Had this procedure done 7 weeks ago. So far I regret it. Caused new external hems which the doctor had to excise in his office and I can barely sit on a chair anymore. Driving is difficult, can't exercise, and I have to sit on a pad at work. I go in next week to have another excision in office. Overall I've become depressed due to the pain and loneliness of it and my doc is said to be one of the best.

How were you at the start..did it just get progressively worse? Or was it bad from the off?

It was and still is a rough recovery. Didn't leave the house for almost a month afterward, lots of pain medication. The worst is directly after for the first two weeks, it redefined my tolerance for pain. I'm hoping to be a special case and this will all still heal but at wk 7 I'm starting to accept my new normal. Before this I had hems but they were not controlling my life. Now I have to sit in a warm bath after every bloody bm and I have externals now which I never had. Other people seem to have good experiences so maybe I'm just unlucky.

So did you get the surgery? How is it going? What is your profile? Age and any other conditions other than hemorrhoids?

Still looking for anyone from the united States on the east coast who can recommend a surgeon who preforms the thd. Been waiting for two years to find a surgeon. Have been told by local surgeon I am a candidate but can't seem to find one who does this procedure.

I'm 47, male, had stage 3-4 hemorrhoids for 3-4 years. Mostly just the prolapse that bothered me. So much so that it affected my life more and more. Could not even go to a party and stand around conversing for more than ten minutes w/o having to go to the restroom and push them back in.
I had THD with mucopexy 8 am on Friday last week. I had general anesthesia, and the local anesthetic Exparel to help post op pain. Post op day 0 was not bad, felt numb down there. I went to the store briefly, then walked outside for 30 min.
Early in am of post op day 1, Saturday, the pain hit. All focused around external anal area. Pain took my breath away. It was constant, but waxed and waned between a 6-7 out of ten. I took celebrex 200 mg every eight hrs. I held off on the oxycodone I was given, as I feared the constipation that can come with that. I passed a bit of gas that day, as I was very bloated feeling. That relieved some of the pressure, but had to be done on the toilette. Few patches of rust colored blood came out each time. I mostly could not sleep due to pain level, but every once in a while I would get an hr of relief and would sleep sound. I had some grape nuts for breakfast that day and an Italian cookie. Had to run to restroom where I passed more gas, and after straining just a little, had an unsatisfying poo about size of my pinky finger, with little blood, rusty colored. Then throughout day just layed around in bed, trying the never ending position changes and freq sitz baths to get away from the pain.
Post op day 2, Sunday, was the same as prior day. And one small poo again. Very uncomfortable to pass it, followed by four hours of increased pain that would gradually subside. Had bran flakes for dinner. Skipped breakfast, as I did not want more poo. Slept on an off, hr at a time at most. Pain still 6-7/10 most of the time. I continued colace stool softener twice daily. I felt more and more like I had a bigger poo on board that day.
Post op day 3, Monday, more of the same. Ramen noodles for breakfast. I found pressing gently on the anal area through my underwear with a finger would drop pain from 7/10 to a 6/10. Stayed in bed much of day, but started to have longer periods of relatively little pain. Could sleep that night for 2-3 hr straight. Had period in afternoon of 1/10 pain that went for 4-5 hrs, so I went to work just to do paperwork. To catch up. No other people around on 4th of July holiday. Was exhausted after that. Rested rest of day.
Post op day 4, Tuesday, felt I had to have BM or die trying. Lots of pressure that led just to gas though, over and over. Finally did a sodium phosphate enema, which took me five minutes and a mirror to carefully insert without traumatizing myself. Within one minute, hed big dark, firm stool. Pain was substantial, but required no major straining. However, I think that enema, because of its high salt content burned the inside of my anus. It burned for about 12 hrs and there was no relieving it. 5-6/10 burning pain. I re-read my post op instructions which specified only a "warm water" enema if needed. Lesson learned. Felt better after 12 hrs though. Had better rest that night, the bloating gone. But still pain would drop to 1-2/10 for few hrs and then jump up to 5-6/10 for several hrs. More sitz baths, more position changes, from sitting up, lying down, raising butt in air, and five or six other poses that seemed to drop pain by a minor degree.
Post op day 5, Wed, same story. No BMs, but ate very little still. bowl bran flakes in am, then fried some zucchini for dinner with a glass of red wine. But pain levels creeping down a bit. Food seemed to help pai a bit! Fell asleep that night at midnight, and was awakened with anal cramps at 5 am. A good night sleep relatively though. That brings us to next day.
Post op day 6, Thurs, 5-6 am had a spontaneous BM, soft, but full size, still a bit painful, but much relief. Pain jumped to a 5/10 for four hrs after that. More sitz baths. More bed rest. Watched a little more TV. In the first three days, I really could not focus much on TV, pain would not allow. Was able to go outside, and was well enough in afternoon to go do more paperwork at work for 1-2 hrs. But pain increased again in early evening at times, but not constant. I fried up some more zucchini with basil and soy, ate that and glass red wine. Still some tenesmus off and on whnever gas present. Went to bed at 9:30, slept until 5 am again, best night yet.
Post op day 7, Friday. Awoke 5 am with pain that was not excruciating, but would not allw me to sleep more. Passed some more gas on toilette with flecks of old blood again. Felt better after sitz bath. Went Outside for an hr and played with some of my pets briefly. Came in and got showered. Went to bank, automatic teller to deposit a check. Then rested rest of day. Now sitting here at 3:30 pm writing this post, with star trek in the background. Contemplating my next meal, have not eaten yet today, as I have high fiber diet, but my strategy is to still only have a BM every other day. That just seems best for my sanity right now. By the way, I am a physician............will go by Doc/THD on here.

Doc/THD here again, of note, I had substantial mucopexy here, and I believe this was what caused all of my pain. The pain currently on day seven is solely on the outside area of the anus. It is extremely sensitive to the touch in one area. Fortunately I have seen nothing prolapse out of me down there, and that is certainly heartening. The surgery so far is successful. This seventh day was a bigger turn around the corner than any previous day, but still not out if the woods yet. Still worried about next BM. A little stage fright, pain will likely return after that.

Doc/THD here again. Post op day 8 now, had BM last night at 6 pm, painful, but then pain really kicked in again all night. Very little sleep, sitz bath no help at all. 7-8/10 pain. Pain brought me to tears because of the despair, as I thought I had turned the corner yesterday. Only relief is when I raise my bum in the air. Prop up with pillows etc. By 2:00 pm doing a little better, but still 3/10 pain. Almost broke down and took percocet. No planning on eating at all today. Clear liquids at most. Don't want another BM for few days!

Doc/THD here again, broke down, took a percocet, I have found the dause if my new pain is actually a thrombosed external hemmorhoid. That gives me a little hope. Maybe the THD pain is actually going away, but this new painful external rhoid is causing 100% of the new pain. At least I can now switch from celebrex to Aspirin, which should calm this down a tad. Aspirin is better at thinning blood and inflamation in veins etc. And per my discharge instructions, ASA is ok to take seven days after surgery. One 5/325 percocet has dulled the pain from 4-5/10 to a 2/10, and a little glass of cream whiskey has helped extend the percocet a bit, so I don't have to take two.

Hi , I have suffered with piles on and off for over twenty years, the pain has been so bad over the lay 2 years and has felt like I was having electric shocks sent up my back side all the time, I have had injections, but they came back, have tried banding but only worked on some, on Thursday I have had THD as I was told I had 4 degree piles which are the worse, and always bleed but the pain was the worse thing to deal with, so far post opp have had no bleeding, only a little uncomfortable due to pressure of needing to pass stools, this was OK as long as you relax and don't strain, I will be going back to work tomorrow so will update you in a few days .
