Wonder if you can help, but I am a 29 year old female, skinny arms and legs, yet my stomach is so badly swollen (It measures 40") that people constantly ask me when my baby is due. (Which really upsets me.)
I am a strict vegetarian, eat FAIRLY healthy (I like to drink wine an have the odd curry.) and have cut down on my bread intake from about 6 slices a day to 1-2 a day and I switched my pasta and rice to the brown varieties.
My bowel movements used to be 1-2 times a day but over the past year or two has gone up to 3-4 times a day instead.
Sometimes when I eat, at lunchtimes mainly, half an hour after eating I get the most crippling stomach pains and they are sometimes followed by horrendous, painful, cramping diarrhoea, which is so bad that I am actually sobbing on the toilet in agony! My rectum feels like it's burning for an hour or so afterwards too. I rarely get constipated.
Obviously the body doesn't process my food in half an hour, so why am I on the toilet in pain so soon after eating?
My Nan died of bowel cancer in her 40s, so I do check my motions, but wouldn't know if my stools had blood in them anyway as when I see something red it could be peppers, kidney beans or beetroot for expamle.
I also belch a LOT too, they are tiny belches that don't even make a sound, I didn't notice that I did it, but my husband pointed out that I do it all the time, so I counted them one hour and did one every 2-3 minutes in that particular hour! Though to be fair I do not belch CONSTANTLY.
I asked my doctor about IBS, he just shrugged and said "maybe." so I asked at the chemist store and the pharmacist said he would not give me IBS pills unles sthe doctor had diagnosed it.
I recently went to the doctor again about my distended abdomen, as people asking me when my baby is due is having a really upsetting effect on me, he felt around my stomach and said he could not feel any blockages or growths and said that I must be unlucky and carry my fat there and nowhere else and referred me to a dietician... Who I am still waiting to be seen by... Though I did speak to her on the phone and she said it MAY be a food intolerence.
I have not lost any weight or anything lately and am only 4lbs over my ideal BMI in weight.
Not sure what else I can do or try, but it makes my life a misery.
Can anyone offer advice please or does anyone have the same problem?
Thanks.

Hi I am experiencing the exact problem! I am so tired of people asking if I am pregnant, it is really wearing on my self-esteem. Please tell me what your diagnosis is when you get one. I have seen so many docters and no one can tell me anything. I too think it may be an intolerance to some kind of food I am eating.

Hi bradders, my name is Rose, and I would like to get familiar with your problem. How long has it been since this started happening? I also have an aunt that has similar symptoms, and she doesn't know what to do. I suggested her, as I would suggest you too, that the best thing to do is to go and see a specialist about your bloated stomach, and run all tests if necessary, blood and stool, full body examination in order to establish a proper diagnosis. It could be an allergic reaction, or a hernia. Let us know what you decided.
