what symptom would cause an electricity feeling in neck and running down arm? A feeling like when you hit a filling with something metal. My sister is having severe problems and has already had several neck surgeries. The pain is in her arms and neck. Doc says he did it all right but the pain is still there.

Hi honey! Neck surgery is a VERY tricky surgery, and what your sister is experiencing could be a couple of things - 1. she has a trapped nerve in her neck - which shoots down here arm! 2. There is still swelling in her nexk, impeding a nerve - probably in c4 - c7 whic will also cause the electricity shooting! IF this goes on for another 2 -3 weeks, she needs to go see him again! And for him to check this out, there are procedures that can stop the current, but those too are tricky. In the mean time, IF she can tolerate a neck massage this would be awesomfe for her neck to be able to release the trapped nerve! I hope this helps a bit, good luck and ehalth to you both!

Could be lots of things from thoracic outlet syndrome==the radial or ulnar nerve trapped in there, or it could be in her neck. She will need an MRI. She will most likely need an EMG, or nerve conduction study to see where the nerve is pinched or whatver and which nerve it is. It might go away if she gets into physical therapy and gets the swelling down and builds up her neck muscles. Medications like neurontin or lyrica will help with that kind of pain also. Good luck. How frustrating.

One other thing you said, "doc said he did it right but pain is still there". THey NEVER do surgery for pain. They do it to stop progressive neurologic disease. She might have to live with pain and this electric feeling. At least she can use her arm. It might have been had she not had the surgery she might have had myelopathy so bad she couldn't walk, so pain is not something any neurosurgeon can promise to remove, and they wont do surgery just for pain (unless its to remove a tumor or whatever, or a rhizotomy--cutting a nerve for pain relief). GOOD LUCK.
