Hi, my grandfather suffered from neurotic excoriation, and these are self-inflicted skin lesions produced by repetitive scratching. It is considered to represent a physical manifestation of an emotional problem, as there is no obvious physical disorder. Sometimes, besides clean, linear erosions, scabs and scars even hypopigmented or hyperpigmented areas are noticed. The condition requires psychological help, as it is problem arisen in the head. Usually, psychotropic medications and appropriate counseling can be effective treatments. Anxiety or a mood disorder are mostly responsible for self-inflicted dermatoses.
