It is normal especially because you are still breastfeeding. some breastfed babies only have bowel movements every week or two. In these children, as long as the bowel movement is watery or soft when they finally have it, then they are likely normal and not constipated.

As for the pain he is feeling, it is probably baby colic and you should ask in the pharmacy if they have anything to sooth this pain or make him some chamomile tea.

Well,
You have to know that constipations are very often in newborns. The fact is that their stomachs are not still used to complete digestion of the food and often they have constipations. The problem is that they have a lot of gas as well and there for they might be in a lot of pain. Also 9 days is a lot of time so my advice would be to take him to see a doctor and see what can be done. Using laxatives are dangerous on your own so you will need a supervision of a doctor. Your child is still very young and you need to be careful what he eats and drinks.

All the best,
Nelie
