Get an MRI. I was told my problem just like yours is a herniated C5C6 disk. Surgery is next.

I'm another one who got this after using scissors to cut heavy material yesterday morning and the side/top of my thumb is still numb and has some pins & needles type sensations. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one at least...

I'm another person with the same semptoms but I have not been using any sissors or anything. My numbness of my right thumb begain while I was asleep. I was woken because it was hurting soo bad. I do sleep with my gold and silver bracelets on, maybe that may be the cause of my numbness I don't know. I wear 2 gold and 2 silver maybe they are pinching my nerves, I read on another website that we might need inflammatories to help with the numbness but then agian that advice didn't come form a doctor.

This may simply be an over use phenomena. Holding scissors can press on the nerve that supplies sensation to the thumb and it has probably been traumatized. Nerve recovery is the slowest of all of the body’s tissues. If it hasn’t resolved in a week or two, I’d see your doctor for an evaluation.

Hey guys. I'm having this problem at the moment as well. I spent most of my day yesterday writing (like 12 pages of med notes) and woke up this morning with numbness and tingling in my thumb on the right hand.
Explanation: while writing/using scissors, you are pressing the tendons and nerves in the base to mid thumb. When these are exercised more than usual, the tingling or numbness occurs from overworking them. It is a nerve response. I believe only time will heal as I cannot think of any meds or treatments that would help.

I write a lot by hand as it is required in notes at school, and when I write for fun at home. When I write I hold the pencil in a way that the inside of my thumb is pressing on it. Often after I've done lots of notes, I've felt numbness in my thumb, but if I don't write for a while it goes away. This time is hasn't gone away and its been almost five days so I'm a little worried, but no one on this post has said what to do about the problem. One post said that they went to see a doctor and the doctor didn't know what the problem is. So, I'm not sure what I could do. Just leave it as is?

I have the same problem. Went to the internet to find out what it is and what could cos it. And the more important how to fix it. I also use laptop few times a day, but not too much. May be it's something to do with that.

I have a numb right thumb.. It went numb couple hours ago and is still numb. I work cutting card stock with sissors and on the computer a lot. I also have a lump on my wrist just under my thumb. I noticed that just 2 months ago and went to see the dr. She said it was just a cyst and will do one of 3 things: grow, pop and disappear or stay the same. I will be going to see the dr next week and hopefully get things resolved.

Geez, chill out. Unless you've had past nerve damage history (like the car crash), you just compressed the nerve in your thumb and it can take awhile to uncompress. Save your money there's nothing that you can do about it (except maybe invest in a paper cutter instead of scissors).

I have similar thumb symptoms that I cannot trace to cutting. Numbness only on the interior side of the thumb, however, for the full length of the thumb.
However, I do use computer in my work for many hours a day, so I suspect a possible work issue with nerves.
In addition to numbness, pain results when I rotate my thumb downward and fully extend and stretch the arm, especially when I push downward on a flat surface like a tabletop. other pain-producing activities include reaching down to pick up something, and the tennis service motion. The pain with certain movements has persisted for a month now (sometimes excruciating), and does not seem to abate with rest/vacation.
