My friend is on Methadone treatment for long. At the moment he is on 100 milligrams per day. From what he told how he feels, I think he already developed tolerance on opiate. I am worried that he may start abuse Methadone or try another opiate. Please, I need some information about it.

I can only tell you that opiate dependence is a medical condition. It happened for one of my friends too. He became physically dependent after just three weeks on methadone, and then tolerance built up rapidly. However toxicity of methadone is more likely in those persons trying the drug for a first time before tolerance has had time to develop. Important thing is proper dose which depends on person’s metabolism, body weight and opiate tolerance.
