walking is normal at first but after four or five city blocks i must take a few minute break to continue

Atherosclerotic plagues in the arteries of the legs reduce blood flow to the muscles responsible for walking. Walking increases the need for oxygen in those muscles. When such a need is not met due to the reduced blood flow, the muscles become starved of oxygen and pain is the result. I would encourage you to continue your daily walk as this would help maintain your mobility and funtionality. Rest as long as you need when you start to feel the pain. Bring a walker with you so that you can sit on it when you take a break.
