i have only had one episode so far but it terrorized me.I am 62 and basically in good health i was sitting on the couch and outof no where i develped a severe pain across my mid bac by my bra line it was if i was about to faint on a scale of 1 to 10 it was a 10.also my right arm when i went to take my bp was totally numb as i inflated the cuff i did not think i would be able to endure it. by bp was 180 over 101.It terrified me. i took an advail and a avapro which i am on for malignant hypertension.after about ten minutes the pain was gone and about 30 minutes my bp was normal.Please help me.i was in hospital 3 months ago and had 3 ekg"s??they were totally normal.could these change in that time????i weigh only 138 am 5'6" AND eat healthy.drink lots of liquids.HOw can i get an answer.my email is _[removed]_m also if i have another ekg will that show anything??????PLEASE ADVISE

The sudden severe pain across your mid back may be due to a vertebral compression fracture. This can occur without any obvious physical trauma if you have severe osteoporosis. The presence of peripheral vascular disease will increase the likelihood that your arm will get totally numb when a pressure cuff is being inflated. Severe pain and fear of a heart attack can cause your blood pressure to shoot up sharply. If your BP normalized soon after controlling your pain, that is probably what it was. At this point, I don't think you had a heart attack, but it doesn't hurt to have some blood work done to rule out a transient heart attack. I advise you to see a doctor as soon as possibe.
