I do have a medical background. It sounds as if you are low on vitamin D and Iron. DO NOT START TAKING THESE. SEE YOUR DOCTOR FIRST. MAKE SURE THIS IS WHAT IT IS.

I just got this again last night, I haven't had it for years. Used to happen quite often (ironically, back when I was healthier - early 20s and in good shape. Now I am 29, over 260lbs, and very out of shape.)

If I remember correctly, some of the other people that posted on page 1 of this thread are about on the money -- it goes away on its own, if you take some deep breaths, get a bit of exercise, maybe go for a jog. Just get moving a bit.

That being said, my grandpa had a slight pain in his chest, he thought it was maybe a cracked rib cage from shooting his hobby guns. After a few months he finally went to the doctor. Turns out it was lung cancer, and he was dead less than 2 months later. Of course he was 80+ and had been smoking a pack a day since he was ten...

I would suggest to anyone who has this type of pain (sharp chest pain when you're breathing and lying down) to move around a bit, and give it a couple days. If it doesn't get better, then go to a doctor.

I am glad to know that someone else has had the "pop" in the lungs. It has happened to me for years and I too have the pain in my right rib cage. I have always tried to explain the "pop" to others and they always seem to laugh in my face. Im scared to go to a doctor because every time I do, I get turned away.

I'm 15 and i have had the same problem for about a year. It started after I had a pneumonia for about 2 months. Nothing much like this happened when i had pneumonia but after it was over the pain started. The pain strikes at unexpected times below my right rib cage but above appendix. I can't breath deeply at all. I have to take short breaths and if i try to breath too much the pain only gets worse.. any ideas why this is happening would be great.

thanks

OK Good People Here Yoy Go>>> I suffered from this for over ten years and have seen very doctor/healer under the sun they all said wow?? that is strange??
It is Simply a pinched Nerve... A "Spinal Nerve" can you say Caused by "Adrinal Fatiuge" (aka "twelfth rib syndrome" ) what happens is the twelfth Rib and or sometimes the 7th Rib move and pinch the spinal nerve at the "intervertebal foramen" which in turn stresses a group of nerves called the lumbar plexus and cause all the side affects like stomach and digestive problems... adrianlal fatigue comes from natural things like phenamonia and or unnatural things like cocaine and speed...
there is only one thing that can fix this a pinched nerve move what is pinching it aka the twelfth and or 7th rib... to do that you need a Chiropractor... but here is the catch you need a GOOD Chiropractor and those are hard to come by and you will have to go threw his or her full regimen of adjustments it took mine almost two years to get there but now after over ten years of pain anf suffering and having spent thousands and thousands of dollars on treatments and drugs Fixed I added up the 2 years of Chiro bills out of pocket cause insurance wouldnt cover... only forteen hundered dallors over 2 years well worth it and I wish I had done it sooner ... mine is "palmer school" trained dont know if that will help... but i do know that not all Chiropractors know how to fix this problem you need to find a good one who knows what it is and what needs to be done... i suggest not telling him what you have read here and or may learn in your goggling... and if he can tell you he thinks it could be a, rib pinching a nerve, and he thinks he can help, but it will take a regular adjustment you are on the right path....
To be clear this is a very serious problem the longer the lumbar plexus is stressed the better chanse for organ dieses and or cancer

I have stabbing pains under both ribs, and sore spots (nerves?) about 4 inches and one inch out from my nipples, on both sides of the chest wall. Finally recognized something was really wrong about 2 months ago.. I'm 6'2 215 40 YO, I've gained about 15 lbs in the last year and thought maybe the way I sit in my chair was compressing the (smaller) fat rolls I have on my chest abdomen... First doctor I saw told me to stop squeezing my fat rolls! However a month later after hardly being able to sit at work without aching pains.. I went and saw another doctor who thought intercostal neuritis.. inflamed nerves and is sebding me to a specialist. She did an x-ray and there was no evidence of bone cancer. Although I did have two bouts with high grade superficial bladder cancer in the past 5 years (chewed for 20 years), so I am pretty scared it could be metastatic cancer somewhere (although the clear x-ray helps me not worry about that too much..).. Maybe I need a CT scan?

The doctor did say she had one case long ago where a patient did have bone cancer on both sides of his lower rib cage (rare but happens).

I was also exposed to HFMD about 2-1/2 months ago (daughter brought back from daycare), which is a coxsackieviruses (Type A), coxsackievirus B which may cause Pleurodynia: [During attacks, the pain is severe, intense, and excruciating, lasting seconds to a minute. Pain is paroxysmal, occurring in attacks separated by minutes to hours. Severe attacks can result in difficulty breathing. The thoracic pain is usually over the lower ribs and is unilateral, but it can also occur over the front, back, or substernal area. Between attacks, patients usually have a constant, dull, pleuritic chest pain. The attacks usually persist for 3-5 days and rarely last longer than a month and may go through phases of remission and exacerbation.] This is probably a reach, but a possibility?

My daughter is having similar problems. She said when she takes a deep breath in it hurts below her chest area. She is only 11 years old.
Also she says at recess when she is running her left rib would start to hurt. It's not a cramp or anything else like that. I notice that she taking smaller breaths. I'm taking her to the doctor on Tuesday. Until then I don't know what's wrong.

for about 3 years now i have had mid back pain that then starts to radiate to my right ribs it starts out as a dull throbbing feeling then it starts turning to sharp stabbing under the ribs
it hurts to breathe or walk or sit all i can do is curl in the fetal position and cry sometimes it will pop or crack and sometimes its better but still achy
or it just makes it impossible for me to function iv been to 3 doctors and been given ibprofen and baclofen and it really doesnt help i want a fix not a pill to attempt to mask the pain i hate pills.

i have no idea i think i may have a herniated disk cause it starts as back pain and i cant bend forward at all but then i know my rib heads pop out because they have been adjusted many times yet they continue to bother me

help please natural pain relievers, excercises anything helps

The last three days i've had a sharp pain under my right rib cage. It hurts to breathe, and it hurts when i'm just sitting. About three to five times a day, I'll get a really really sharp pain under my rib cage and it feels like a big bubble that will only go away if i take a really deep breath, but it hurts too much to breathe or even move. It happens if I laugh or if im laying down and switch positions too fast.. I can't take a deep breath laying down either or the "bubble" will come. I can't breathe hardly at all when it happens. i have to take really quick and short breaths.. it has happened before, but never as bad as the last three days and it's never left me sore. I don't have much of an appetite, and my urine has a strong odor. Ive had a history of bladder infections and a few kidney infections, also i had swollen kidneys and a swollen spleen about four years ago. :( so i'm not sure if it has any relation to either of those. If anyone has any ideas as to whats wrong with me id greatly appreciate the info. Thanks!

This is PCS, it's a very common thing found between the ages of 12-45 and is normally described as having a feeling like there is a bubble under your rib cage, it can be very painful sometimes, but I assure you, nothing is wrong it is completely normal and taking 4 to 5 deep breaths.
