Im a 21 year old male, I work in the Australian Army. Recently i got back from bush at work and on my first night back i woke up at about 200am needing to pee quite badly, once i had finished my pee i had a painful stinging feeling and drops of blood started to come out. After that about 2 mins later i felt like i needed to pee again only this time it was very little urine and more blood. This happens several times over and start to see stringy blood clots. That night i was in so much pain i went to the hospital at the army base where they gave me to panadene forte's and gave a pee sample. The doctor wasent on duty at night so i was sent home and had an appointment for 700am that morning. Went to my appointment and the doctor told me could be possible kidney stone and sent me to to get ex rays later that morning than to return and see him later im the afternoon. Did all this and nothing was found in ex rays, he suggested i may have already passed the stone and said take it easy over the weekend and drink plenty of water, come see me again on Tuesday. Im still getting the same problems as the thursday night i went to the hospital. Only they gave me panadene forte to take home and use which i am now using when ever it starts happening. However Iv been searching on the internet all morning my symptons to find out whats wrong.. Its not cloudy or smelly like a UTI and i dont believe its a stone due to not showing in ex-ray.. Im in alot of pain when ever it happens for about 2-3 hours i feel like the panadene forte does nothing... do you know what could be wrong with me? =(

Hi honey! I truly believe that you either have a UTI OR had bladder stones! Remember that the pain from passing these is AWFUL! And they scrape against the sides of the urethra - one of the smallest parts of our body! So say your urethra is 1mm wide and you pass a stone (that is hard and sharp) that is 3mm wide, then it will cause bleeding and pain! and then the acid from your urine WILL hurt like a dickens everytime you urinate! When you went to see the doctor, did he have your urine analysis results? They can do those with a strip - I don't know why they sent you home without finding out if it was a UTI and then giving you anti-biotics!

It's hard to say! Lots of factors play into different symptoms the symptoms for Bladder Stones are Lower abdominal pain, In men, pain or discomfort in the penis, Painful urination, Frequent urination, especially during the night, Difficulty urinating or interruption of urine flow, Blood in your urine, Cloudy or abnormally dark-colored urine!

The symptoms for UTI's are Frequent urge to urinate (but small amounts when you do go), Painful/Burning feeling in your bladder and your urethra, Fatigue, Fever - which means it is has probably gone into the kidneys, cloudy/milky/bloody urine, Nausea and back pain - are usually associated with Kidney infections and stones!

So to me what it sounds like - from your symptoms - is bladder stones! That you might have passed already (or granules remain)! In the mean time - waiting for your results - just keep drinking plain water as much as possible, start flushing out any buildup, and hopefully it will start subsiding an be better by the time the results come back!
