Hello everyone, I had this exact problem about 4 years ago.. and it never went away.. I've seen all kinds of doctors.. and I could never figure out what it was. Now I realize I had a very intense work out routine, and i was bit too harsh on my body. So to you all who work out intensely.. do so with care. One that has been helping me recently(something my grandma suggested, ancient remedy), lie down flat on the ground facing the ground, now make a small ball(out of a cloth or if u have one.. i use the miracle ball) about the size of your punch and place it under ur belly button, then slowly balance ur body weight on it.. be sure to do it on an empty stomach only relax your stomach and you should feel a pulse. (if your pain is severe or if it hurts too much, please don't do this).

In response to all the posts I too have a bump above my belly button. It's about 2 inches long and it's hard when I push on it and makes a crunching gurgling sound. So I did think that I had a hernia and went to the Doctor. She couldn't feel it when she examined me and ordered a complete ultra sound of my stomach. This ultra sound checks the gall bladder, liver, kidneys, stomach and it would have found a hernia, except it didn't. The only thing this ultra sound doesn't detect is problems in the large or small intestine. So now I am supposed to go for a colonoscopy. This bump or growth doesn't hurt and sometimes I can't find it at all and then all of the sudden an hour later there it is. I did a colon cleanse and that didn't make it go away. I've had this since August and it's now December. My son thinks I have a torn
muscle in the stomach from heavy lifting at work. Since this bump has shown up however, I've not had an appetite, I feel a dull ache sometimes, and after I eat I sometimes feel very unwell. Like I've said, I've tried a lot of things and it's still there!

To the person asking what you have:it is 90% a umbilical hernia, i have had mine since 1988 and was miss diagnosed for 20 years, this thing is massive and now the docters won't touch it. this thing is painful, the surgeon says he wants me to lose weight before doing it, but i cannot lose weight that fast, plus i know others that have had this procedure done that were heavier than myself. i will tell you if your docter will remove it get it done. after twenty some years it is disgusting and painful to live with.

You need to go to the doctor. On Easter Sunday 4/5/10 I rolled over on my belly and had a pain in my lower abdomen. I started feeling around, and felt a lump on the left side of my belly button. I went to my family doctor on Monday 4/6/10 to get it checked out, and it was an umbilical hernia that became incarcerated. I was immediately sent to a general surgeon the same day, and the general surgeon poked around and realized how painful the hernia was to me. I was then sent to the hospital for admission, and scheduled for surgery to repair the incarcerated umbilical hernia. I was released from the hospital 4/7/10, and I am really sore. I am taking pain medication of course, and trying to walk around as much at possible. So, if you are having the problems please go to your doctors and let them check it out, as I did. Hope you get to feeling better.

Hi, I have been trying to do a search for an answer to my possible problem and this is the closest I can find so hope that someone here can help me.
I have a small lump just below and to my right of my belly button which has been causing me some discomfort and pain throughout the last couple of days. I do not do workouts exactly but I am a single mother of two (and all mothers know how much work is involved there lol) and carry heavy shopping for about half a mile home from the shops 2-3 times a week. I also do a lot of walking (min 5 brisk miles a day as I do not drive and my girls' schools are just over a mile away). I have also been moving some heavy furniture around my home myself this week.
Should I get this checked out by my Dr on Monday or is it just probably a pulled muscle? Any advice would be very welcomed :-)

I'm currently 8 and a half months pregnant. About four days ago I noticed the bump above my bellybutton. I had a doctor's appointment two days ago and had him look at it. I don't have an answer, but he said "It isn't a hernia, because the muscles are below the baby, its a cyst. We'll keep an eye on it." He didn't seem to think it would interfere with my pregnancy, and thinks it is something we can resolve afterward. I know it isn't much of an answer, but for those of you that are worried about it interfering with pregnancy, well, I'm one example of it not. I have a 2 year old, and that was a c-section. I'm scheduled for a c-section now, too. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I've had this problem twice before and both times before I was diagnosed with staph infection. Mine started out as described in all of your posts but then it began to discharge and drain and the circumfrance around my belly button turned red and was extremely sore. I had to take massive amounts of anti biotics and even have it lanced one time. I'm starting to get it again an I'm praying it's not reallystaph again because it was awful! Everyone go to Dr!

So there must be something because yesterday morning the same thing happened to me. I woke up with pain and and just thought it was a gallbladder thing as everything seems to be related to a gallbladder thing these days. Anyways, in the afternoon i noticed the same lump and its very painful. I went to the ER after calling Healthlink and had bloodwork(everything came back fine), X-ray(nothing to see there) and finally and ultrasound which only showed that I have a "something" there but they can'r really tell me what it is. The doc said it appears to be a cyst and if it gets bigger than i should go back to have it checked again. Its so painful. I'm very athletic and run every day, mostly High intensity intervals and not being able to do anything is not working for me at all. Has anyone ever found out what caused this to happen??

yup,i've got the exact same thing....during the past summer i had my belly button pierced but i had to take it out....and now there's a huge lump right above my bellybutton...:/ it's terrible...if i stretch or bend over it hurts and if it gets aggitated it hurts at touch.i saw a school nurse about it and she said that it is a possible hernia and i should watch to see if it changes in size if so see a doctor cause it could be drastic measures.D: i don't really want it surgically removed but if it's imparative that i get it done then i'll go ahead and go with it...with my luck that's exactly what it is.:O

Hello,
I found a ball-like structure under my belly button and slightly to the right. I was wondering what may be. I've just noticed it about 2days ago. It doesn't hurt at all. But I'm wondering if that's a sign to go see a doctor of if it's nothing to be concerned about. Please help.
Thanks.
