I have been experiencing a pink discharge between my periods for about 2 months. In 2002, I was positive for HPV...and last May 2005, I had a Pap done and it was clear. I didnt know if the pink discharge had anything to do with that or if it was just an infection. It has a strange smell to it...almost metallic like. On days that I have this discharge, I usually have numerous bowl movements with it. The only reason I havent had it checked out is because I don't have any health insurance. Any idea about what it could be??

Do you have any accompanying symptoms?
I am thinking about Candida. Some of the symptoms that follow candida overgrowth in the vagina are: burning of the vagina or when urinating, discomfort during or after sexual intercourse, odor, irritatation of the vagina, itching of the vagina, painful urination, painful intercourse, vulva redness and swelling, cottage-cheese-like discharge.
I haven’t had almost any of these symptoms and following vaginal smear I was found to have candida. I did have a persistent discharge, no odor and occasional vulval itching but I am not sure if I could contribute it to candida.
I do remember that candida can cause pinkish discharge as well.
Have you ever had candida? I did two years ago but apparently haven’t got rid of it because it was still present or maybe it reoccurred. Candida has nothing to do with sexual interocuse, I mean it can be aggravated by prolonged sex or condoms but it is not an STD.
As you don’t have an insurance, you could buy 3day Monistat. I know it is not advised to use any products without being diagnosed but I know many girls who use monistat on their own. The problem is that bactaeria vaginosis often resembles candida symptoms but is not cured by monistat as candida is fungus.
Anyway, you may consult a pharmacist about the matter.
