Can you please tell me what would cause hypervolemia (increased blood volume) in an 80 year old male? Medical history reveals hypertension, hyperlipidemia, history of bypass surgery and hip replacement. What are some of the potential diagnosis' for hypervolemia? Hematology consult recommended. Is consult vital and how soon should it be addressed ?

Fluid overload (hypervolemia) can be caused by many reasons, including problems with the heart, kidneys, or lungs or a combination of any of these vital organs. Fluid overload can also be experienced after certain surgical operations. Congestive Heart Failure is the most common reason for fluid overload.

Indeed, a hematology consult is needed and the sooner the better.
