Hi, I recently had a 6hr brain surgery, (July 6th) After waking up from anesthesia, I noticd my right lateral thigh had a numb-like burning feeling. Since then my thigh has gotten very tender to the touch, very sensitive very painful. Someone has said it was due to positioning on the OR table. It's been almost 8 weeks since the surgery and no relief as of yet. Is there anything at all I can do for some relief? :'(

I experienced the same thing--after a 12-hr brain surgery in Jan. 2005. Numbness, tingling, sensitivity in outside thigh...except mine had an additional twist. When I lie on my side for awhile to sleep, I am awakened by EXCRUCIATING pain in that leg...we're talking about a 12 on a 0-10 scale! I was able to find relief with 25mg Elavil (amitriptyline) that my MD prescribed. It takes awhile to become effective--10-14 days -- but I did not experience the screaming pain anymore although the numbness, tingling, and some sensitivity remained. I continued taking Elavil for about 8 months then trickled off usage and had no recurrence of the pain. I urge you to check with your dr. about Elavil or Neurontin to see if he/she thinks that might help. (Note: I had surgery again 3 weeks ago and am now experiencing the same thing in BOTH thighs. Have an appt with a neurologist for evaluation and, hopefully, pain relief.) GOOD LUCK IN YOUR QUEST. I TOTALLY SYMPATHIZE WITH YOUR SITUATION.

My surgery was 3 back fusions. I had been getting better until this unbearable stinging pain occured in my right leg. The doctor prescribed Tripleptal which I am not sure is the correct medicine for this condition. My surgery was January 3 so I am thinking something terrible has happened in my back.

I have had similar problems with my leg after 2 hospital stays - 1 surgical, one medical. I have not had brain or nerve or back surgery.

I suspect this is the cause of our discomfort.

I have strange pain, like an electric shock. I had a total hip replacement 6 months ago. Burning pain in the back of my thigh and last night I was awakened by what felt like an electrical shock to the mid front of my thigh. Almost like an electrical shock. What is going on?
