I have had cervical stenosis that has gone from bad to worse in the last 2 years. In May08 I developed pots. After surfing the web on pots I have found many ref. to the vegal nerve 10 and pots. Has anyone else heard of the cervical compression of the spinal cord causing tachycardia.

Hi Andrea,
I have POTS and cervical stenosis. Yes, there is a strong connection between the two. There are alot of sympathetic nerves that run through the cervical region and when this area is compromised as in stenosis, it can cause tacycardia.
It is interesting to me though that I was diagnosed with POTS in 2000 and at the time only had disc bulging in the cervical area, the stenosis was diagnosed in 2005, the POTS does not seem any better or worse over time. Meaning, I think any spinal problem in the cervical area can aggrevate the sympathetic response-tacycardia.
Good luck, neither of these disorders are pleasant. When in combination, misery. :'(

I was diagnosed with POTS in 2011 and systemic lupus in 2009. I wonder if surgery to fix my cervical stenosis will have any affect on my high heart rate and severe headaches?

Nursejackie02, When you have POTS and high heart rate, this can be caused by adrenal problems and is called Hyperadrenergic POTS. Severe headache can be a symptoms of various types of POTS, specifically if you have high blood pressure when rising. Do you have high blood pressure? Additionally, Lupus can target any organ, including the heart, can cause hypertension and/or fast heart beat. Lupus also causes an increased risk of heart attack, which is said to be 10 fold of those who don't have Lupus.
