Seems quite a common problem. I've had this sensation under my left rib for a few months now. I only noticed it after I put on about a stone in weight (normally am slim). I think it is the excess roll of fat that is pressing on the organs when sitting down. Doesn't seem to bother me when standing up/walking or lying down. I will check out with my doctor as it is really annoying and let you know their opinion.

I have had the same feeling in my chest, but under my left side. I have had this feeling for 6-8 months. It feels like there is a bubble or some mass under my ribs just below and to the left of my sternum, but I cannot feel it with my fingers. It is annoying, but not at all painful. I notice it the most when I am bent over, slouching at all (like at the computer), or when I am reclining on my back reading. So I guess, whenever I am compressing that area of my chest by curling my mid/upper back. It also seems to worsen when I have a full stomach, leading me to believe more that there is a physical object there that is reacting to the compression of my stomach wall and pressing against adjacent tissue. When I breathe while reclining on my back after I eat dinner, I can feel a subtle pop every time I exhale, again like it is reacting this time to my lungs being full. I can also feel my pulse in it when i am bent over, which creeps me out. I went to my general practitioner, who did a blood test, a manual examination of my abdomen, took chest x-rays and gave me an ultrasound at an imaging clinic. All of these things turned up nothing. The blood test was supposed to be for detecting a tumor. I too wondered about it being a hernia, but I don't remember hurting myself. I am of average weight, eat a vegetarian diet, don't have any problems with acid indigestion that I know of, drink a moderate amount of alcohol, non-smoker, physically active in cardiovascular and weights and haven't really had any major health problems in my 36 years. One other thing I have had in the same area since I was around 18, is a strange numbness on the surface of my skin. I cannot tell if it is completely dead to feeling, it just feels like a numb spot about 3" in diameter, but it is definitely weird. I have mentioned this to my doctor at the time and to my doctors since then, who all have not been concerned about it. Is it a coincidence it is over the same place I have the bubble feeling? Or is it related? Lastly, I am not a person that spends much time in doctor's offices. I am not afraid to see my doctor, I just don't want to go unless there is really an issue and I think this is some sort of problem that needs attention.

I have the same thing but I also have a numbness tingling feeling from my back around my rib cage area. Felt almost like I'm being tickled from the inside. On my left side when I touch just below ribs on flank area I feel a little cyst or something, showed my Doctor had ct of abdomen and pelvis, xrays of back and sides all showed nothing but an ovarian cyst. White Blood Cell count was slightly elevated but going down over the past weeks. Mine began suddenly almost 3 weeks ago with an all over numbness feeling from head to toe before that I had wicked back pain. It's driving me crazy glad to know I'm not the only one. Going to neurologist on Friday maybe I can get us some answers

I have the same thing as well. I'm a 13 year old girl-not pregnant-and I was beginning to worry that it was something serious. The pulling and tugging in my left ribs seems so abnormal, does any really know what it is? At first I considered heart disease, but I have a healthy diet and am not obese. Thank you for alll of your posts! I feel a lot better now. :-D

I too have been experiencing these symptoms. Feels like a balled fist pushing up under my left rib cage, sometimes its there on and off all day. Some days I don't notice it. It's worse when I am at work, weekends a little better so may be stress related. I've had ultra sound scan and blood tests all normal, but was told may have IBS. This makes sense actually, I think it's trapped wind in teh colon as that sits high up in body. Feels like someone described when PG and foot pushes up under ribs! Had baby 2 years ago and symptoms started 6 months or so after. Low income, lots of stress makes IBS worse.
Have been panicking thinking I have stomach cancer! Feel quite relieved now, GP not worried either.

So interesting to read all these posts!
I have had this feeling of pressure, no pain, under my left rib for about 4 years now! Dr has no answer. Everything feels fine, X-rays are fine and had a scan years ago! Nothing!
Glad to read that I am not alone!!
Figure by this point if it were serious, I would know!

Have you been checked for a hiatus hernia. Causes pressure which feels like a band under the ribcage. Can become worse bending forward. Can also cause heartburn esecially with certain foods

I started having this same problem for a few months now that everyone has been experiencing here. It's a discomforting "pressure" like something is pushing against and under my left rib cage. I'm a 5'8", 160 lbs male in my early 40s in good health besides this pressure that I'm feeling. It comes on mostly when I'm sleeping on my left side in bed. But it also comes on when I'm in a sitting position like while I'm driving to and home from work. My wife has me on Prilosec and Tums, and I am regular so I don't think it is an obstruction of my bowel.
I'm very glad to have found this site and for knowing that I'm not the only one with these kinds of systems. So if anyone knows why a healthy male would feel pressures on his left rib cage while sitting, driving and especially sleeping on the left side (which I can't stand for more than 5 seconds), please let us all know. Thanks.

I get kind of the same thing. If I lay on my left side it feels like I'm laying on a balled up sock or something, though nothing is there. I had work ups for palpitations and an echocardiogram showed I have a slightly weak left ventricle but my dr said that is nothing to worry about and that I am fine. I did ask the specialist about this feeling and he felt around but said he can't feel anything but I never feel anything on the outside either. Idk if it is gas because it happens all the time, every single time I lay on my left side I feel it. Been thinking of going to a walk in clinic just to ask about cuz my dr just fobs me off and says I have anxiety and panic attacks. But maybe it is just something weird that I have to deal with?

I also find it interesting no pain just uncomfortable feeling especially bending forward Seems like something moves under my ribcage I feel like I need to push it downn to get rid but it doesnt move. I have a sliding hiatus hernia and wonder if its this moving under ribs but docs dont think so it is so annoying. Had abdo scan last week everything came back normal I am a loss to think what It can be. Have had it a number of years now so like you it cant be anything serious

I think it is clear that this can happen to any normal person judging by all of the posts that I see on this topic. I also have this problem and I also am glad to see that I am not the only one. I am a male age 14 so I can tell you that since some of you posted a bunch of different ages and genders I am guessing that it probably can happen to everybody. I am healthy and kinda skinny so it can happen to anyone. Has anyone had this problem for a long time or has it stopped?

I haave been dealing with this issue for over a year. I have had bloodwork, several tests, CT scans and the Dr.s can't seem to find anything. I finally went to a new Dr. and she is going to test me for heart problems. Has anyone ever got an answer to this? I am worried and frustrated. It does make me feel better to see that I am not the only person dealing with this.

I have this feeling as well (upper ribcage on the left) such a relief to find out that it is a common feeling that people have so surely is not serious.
I actually just came back from the doctor and had some X-rays and scans, will repost the outcome just in case it's something serious that people should be aware of.
