Hey all,
I have had the same problem for about 3 years off and on. It is a feeling of pressure under my lower left ribs. It feels like a tightness or pressure and it feels like it is under the last rib on my left rib cage. I do computer work that requires a lot of sitting and it seems to be the worse at these times. Also sometimes when i sit i lean to my left and i think this is putting pressure on whatever is sitting under my left rib cage. I cant feel any lumps or anything when i feel around down there but if it is something under my rib cage i guess i would not be able to feel anything.
Does anyone else who has this problem tend to lean to there left side when sitting?

I actually tend to lean to the right because of the uncomfortable feeling I have under the left side of my ribs. If I lean to the left, the feeling is worse. I even lay in bed crooked because it is so uncomfortable.
Right now, I am thinking it might have something to do with kidney stones as I have a big one in my left kidney and when I get pain from the stone, it also gives the feeling of pressure under my left rib cage.
I already had an ovarian cyst and ovary removed so it's not that. I also have an appointment with a GI doc in case it has something to do with my colon. However, like I said, I'm beginning to suspect the kidney stone issues, at least for me anyway.

I seem to have the same thing going on, for about 6 months, right below my left rib cage, it is a squeezing feeling, just like if you are PG and the baby kicks! It doesn't hurt, its just not normal. Have you found anything out??

Hey, this is kind of embarrassing to say but it needs to be said if I want a solution. I'm a guy and I think I have whatever all you people are talking about, I also feel a sort of lump in my left nipple, at first I thought it could be my heart pulsating through my ribcage but I'm honestly not sure being quite inexperienced as I'm only 14 (I don't know if this information could be helpful!?) I get this forum is extremely old though the last post was just a few weeks ago, if anyone has any relevant information please reply to this post of maybe email me on

Well I have been trying to figure this out for almost a year now. I deal with this also. It can last a week or a few hours. It is a fullness or uncomfortableness under my left front ribs. It does feel like a baby's foot is stuck in my rib (like someone else described) and if I lean to the left, the feeling gets worse so when it attacks, I tend to lean to the right. Sometimes it gets very painful right at the edge of my rib like a pinching feeling. I have tried to feel around and under my ribs (as have a few doctors) and there is nothing amiss except sometimes I feel a piece of something hanging off my rib that moves (gross!) but not always can I feel it. Sometimes I also get muscle twitches there.
I have had a CT and two ultrasounds and an xray. I had an ovary removed which had a cyst on it, but unfortunately, the symptom persisted. They also found a kidney stone which was blasted out with lithotripsy and I though I had found the cure, but alas, the pain has come back to visit me today. There is something in my ribs! All tests have been otherwise negative.
The next step is to have an upper GI to see if it is my stomach which is on the left under your ribs. I will keep you posted.
To the young man of 14 years: see the doctor about the nipple lump. Probably nothing but you will feel better if you know for sure.
I will keep everyone updated on this weird symptom.

I also have a feeling of pressure just right under my left rib cage that happens sporadically and for the ladies, it does have the sensation of a moving baby. It has been going on for over a month now and I have not injured myself in any way. At times after I eat I seem to feel more pressure and I noticed last weekend when I picked up my grand-daughter it felt as if something was attached in there and was pulling ,....uhh like holding the end of a balloon where it's tied and pulling the balloon away from you....sorry I don't know how else to describe it. Same thing happened when I picked up the full laundry hamper today. There hasn't been any pain associated with it and when I apply pressure there I feel nothing. I had my gallbladder removed over 8 yrs ago and I've had IBS for years (usually stay in the bathroom which got worse after g/b removal :-) sorry if TMI) so more than likely not constipation related but I've never experienced anything like this. I go to the Dr. in a couple of weeks so I'm hoping I don't get the stare down like others have. Hopefully soon one of us will get some answers as it sure puzzles and worries me. Good luck to all.

Hey,
Back in November my boyfriend bear hugged me and I didn't feel anything from this until a few days later when I started coughing. I went to the docs as my left lower rib seemed swollen and was painful. The doc said for me to get plenty of rest and to take ibuprofen.
Did this for a few weeks and it didn't help so went back to the docs. Was given some strong painkillers and was told it would take around 3 weeks to heal as it is more than likely a cracked rib. Three weeks went by and I was still in pain but also developed a chest infection! So went back to the docs aNd was given antibiotics, which I took whilst taking the new painkillers.
My chest infection finally went but my rib was still swollen and painful. I therefore thought maybe not wearing a bra would help so I didn't wear one for a few weeks which seemed to help the swelling go down and the pain was reduced slightly.
as I seemed to be on the mend I started wearing a bra again and went on a walk for the first time since the injury (I've put weight on as it's been too painful to exercise). My rib then started to hurt more and has swollen again! I went to the docs AGAIN only to be given more painkillers which are more an anti inflammatory and i was referred to have an X-ray (only because I broke down in tears in there due to pain and the fact I'm so fed up) I went to book in for my X-ray oly to be told its been rejected and they couldn't tell me why. They said I need to contact my doctor to find out what to do next. I tried contacting him 3 times yesterday and he didn't return my call.
The pain seems to be in a band across my front and back under my chest. Mainly on the left where the swelling is and feels like there's a lot of pressure. Also when it first swelled there was a line of dots (where I presume my rib is) which could be broken blood vessels but they're still there after 4 months!
I don't know what to do next so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm sick of feeling like I'm in my 80's when I'm only 26!
Thanks guys!

Oh my gosh Melissa. Although this doesn't sound like the same issue as "gas", I think you need to be taken seriously by your doctors. I don't understand why they haven 't given you an x-ray before now. Who is rejecting the x-ray? The insurance company? I don't understand who could reject it if the doctor ordered it?
I'd be very concerned especially where there was coughing and a chest infection involved. And they haven't xrayed or given you an ultrasound? Where do you live?
Can you go to the emergency room? I'm sure you wouldn't have to act like you are in pain because you really are. And they would at least do any xray and possibly more diagnostic type stuff. This has been going on too long. You need answers. Go the the emergency room.

When it is interfering with your normal day to day activites, the doctors are OBLIGATED to diagnose this injury and help you. Explain to them what you are not able to do anymore since the injury. Explain that you have gained weight, can't exercise etc. I wish you the best.

Sorry guys not been on for a while, thanks for your support :-). Just thought I'd update you all....
Last Tuesday I managed to see another doctor (the fourth and hopefully final) and she actually properly examined me.She said I did have a cracked rib and it was the cartilage that was causing me the pain as this was inflamed.
She has therefore given me 500mg naproxen to take for a month and touch wood, this appears to be helping! I have only taken it for just less than a week and I am back to walking almost normal speed without any pain! Amazing! She said if the pain continues after this amount of time then she will refer me to the pain clinic to have the area injected! OUCH!
Will continue taking these for the next three weeks and wear a sports bra and hopefully will be back to normal in no time.
If you don't hear from me again then that means I'm healed!!
Thanks again for the kind support :-)

Hi.. i too have exactly same thing and yes it feels like a baby's foot caught under rib cage. it is very uncomfortable. a lot of pressure that permits me from sleeping. it also kinda feels like theres something thats in there that doesnt belong and i sometimes feel like i need to shift or move something inside of me, obviously i cannot do. clearly there is something wrong. i do have bleeding ulcers, however that's not where my stomach is. if anybody recently has had the same problem and has gone to the doctor and had it diagnosed, i'd love to know what it was as we often jump to the worst scenario. i've cancelled 3 appointments to my doctor, and just fearful of the answer. it's been a year now since i've dealt with this. thanks in advance, CM
