I am 47 years old. I have had UTIs but never the problem I am having now. I have been very itchy aroung the opening of my vagina. It has also been swollen. I used a test and determined that my vaginal ph is normal. There is no smell at all. I have seen a very slight amount of white mucus type substance, but very little. I assumed that this is a yeast infection and have just used an over the counter medication that is inserted and consists of 1 dose. Hopefully, this will work. In the meantime, what really concerns me, is that I decided to look there and discovered that some of the meat just inside the vaginal opening has turned white. Everywhere else is pink as usual. I was talking to my 21 year old daughter about this and she said that she has seen white meat in her vagina in the past and had itching. Also, I feel I should mention that I used a second hand razor (not hers but dummy me!) to shave my privates the day before this started...not sure that has anything to do with it.

Hi honey! You have Thrush/Vaginitis! I think you will need a 7 day treatment over 1 day! As your vaginal wall has already been coated you should perhaps just do a quick douche - not too deep - with a Vinegar warm water! Just make sure it goes around the white area not all the way in! You might need to have a pap test to rule if it is Bacterial or Yeast Vaginitis! This way they perscribe either Falgyl or Diflucan - respectively! Don' t use scented products or wear anything but cotton underwear! Please let me know how you make out! Good luck and health!

Thank you for responding so quickly! I am a little confused though. Do you mean that I should use the 7 day yeast infection medication that is over the counter and that I should wash out the 1 day treatment that I have already used? I used it about 2 hours ago so I am kind of afraid to start using something else right behind it. Is it possible that the yeast medication also works for thrush or is that something that you HAVE to see a doctor for? Thank you for your help. This is totally new to me and I don't want to take any chances but if I can avoid the doctor that would be great. Naturally that's not the most pleasant thought.

Just see how the 1 day works - the reason why I said about 7 day is it sounds like your vaginal wall is COATED in yeast! And it is just more than a little vaginal yeast! so lets see - take a day after to see if you see any difference! IF you don't, do the douche, then the 7 day one - kind of like a fresh start! IF non of that works, THEN go to the doctor! Also start eating probiotic yogurt and Acidopholus - as this eeats the yeast! Keep away from ALL sugars especially pop and white bread OK? Let see for the moment!

Just wanted to update you on my condition since you were so nice to help me out. I am thrilled to report that I am doing soooo much better! I'm not out of the woods yet but major improvement. :-D Also, I started my period so I'm thinking maybe that also played a part.... anyway, if this happens again I will buy the 7 day treatment.
