I have the same broke speaker sound + occasional slight loss of hearing + pressure + itching. Went on a 3 week camping vacation last summer and all signs and symptons went away completly once exposed to clean fresh air. As soon as I got back into my work environment all symptoms came back and are still persisting.....It is definetly sinus related, I have noticed "mold" on the walls seeping through to the main office coming from the janitors closet which was unbelievable when I looked inside. Have your homes tested for mold or other airborne contaminants and have our doctors test you for FUNGAL SINUNITIS. What you breath may be the culprit........I have not yet been tested nor has the air quality at my work but i strongly believe the air quality is the culprit as people frequently have"colds" throughout the year and one other has experienced hearing issues in my place of work.

I have had the same issues to , like static in your ear, and it occurs with loud music and high pitch.
What is insane is that you feel like your loosing your hearing but in other circumstances your hearing seems more sensitive than others. For example, I am hyper sensitive to echo in a room.
My grandmother had menieres disease so I just thought it was a precursor (http://american-hearing.org/disorders/menieres-disease/ men). She could not have her bad ear near a wall due to the echo. I never got it checked out cuz I had passed hearing exams & the doctor did not see anything wrong with my ear. Also, didn't think anything could be done about it. For me, it is a minor annoyance and I just wear ear plugs at concerts or any loud event.

My grandmother had Meniere, so I was wondering if there was a genetic component. You have to be careful with Meniere as it gets over diagnosed. The American Hearing website is the most informative site on hearing and balance issues. From their site on Ménière’s disease: "A typical attack of Meniere’s disease is preceded by fullness in one ear. Hearing fluctuation or changes in tinnitus may also precede an attack. A Meniere’s episode generally involves severe vertigo (spinning), imbalance, nausea and vomiting. The average attack lasts two to four hours." The symptoms people are describing in this thread do not seem as severe. The best broad "category" I fond for this symptoms people are posting on this thread is hyperacusis (there is a Hyperacusis network) and/or tinnatus (that is the ringing sound after hearing loud noises). According to them, there is no cure, but there is therapy to help teach people to tolerate certain frequencies and db.

Hello,
I am a health care. I have a patient who has many sx's listed by many of you on this forum. Please all of you get tested for Lymes. There appears to be a correlation. Hyperacusis it's too early to tell as I have now found more than 3 people with Hyper then dx/w Lyme. Fear of out side for what noise may crop up etc. One has been using a hyperbarbic chamber for 6 mos and fxn's at 80% now. Not perfect but can live her life. Please continue commenting, get tested too. The other link is the gluten intolerance which seems to bother at least half of the patients. I am currently trying to find a way to raise the money it is about $8,500-9,000 for a hyperbaric chamber. She does not have the stamina or ability to go looking. I know there are scams out there. Recently that woman using cancer as a problem got donations for her treatment and scammed a number of people using $ for illegal drugs. I assure you this person is at her wits end and needs help. Anyone know of a foundation that would help r how to set up for donations friend said it was on a tv show like 20-20 or dateline last year and found nothing. Oh yes she has fibromyalgia, insomnia, and several other problems that go with it. If anyone can help me help her I would be grateful. She has moved to a retirement community for the quiet and there is now a widower next door who plays tv loud and other neighbor watches kids even tho they shouldn't be there. She must sleep in her bathtub, wears earplugs except for in the shower and is a prisoner in her own home has not left for 7 years. The Lyme disease has progressed to the tertiary state. I am sure you all realize it is like syphilis and once the spirochete enters the brain there is no medications that will cure it. Please if anyone can help me help her to get the chamber, funds, find the TV station which shared the show last fall please let me know and please have yourself tested. Thank you for any help you can give me.. I have had one patient tell me theDoc stated he knew nothing at all about Hyper and wanter the pt to see a psychiatrist. I am begging you to help me help her.
Thank you,
samasia2

I have put my two-cents in on another forum, I believe, but I will post it here as well. I have had the broken speaker sound for several years now and can't remember when it first became annoying, but now it has reached, IMHO, epic proportions. I am a musician and playing the fiddle next to my left ear has become unbearable. I put an ear plug in, but it really doesn't help much as it would totally have to seal sound from getting in. I have heard a musician's ear plug may help, but haven't tried yet.

I went to an ENT. He pulled a LOT of wax out of that ear. I asked, "Don't you think it odd that wax seems to accumulate excessively in the bad ear and not the good one?" He didn't think it was an issue. Really???

Then I had a tympanagram (sp?) done. My right ear has a nice "bounce" while the bad ear is flat-lined. No bounce. The ENT only did a visual investigation, no XRAY, but he said there appeared to be scar tissue and there was nothing that could be done.

Well, if nothing can be done, that only means the cure (or cause) hasn't been discovered yet. I don't know when my trauma appeared, but there are many possibilities. That doesn't concern me so much as WHAT CAN BE DONE NOW! Maybe my ear bone was broken and pierced the drum. Then it healed over, like an ugly scar, and the crackling sound is what is left. But now the ear hurts when the music is loud. Or sometimes just when the decibels of a room get loud. Can we collectively start writing to Ear institutes and ask them to start clinical trials on this odd phenomenom so we can get a cure? I will.

Hi, did you ever find out what was causing this in your ear and did it go away? I have exactly what you described. It's been there for a month and I had it for 2 months last year. Any info would be geat.

I have the same problem , I seems to have a feeling of light pressure in the ear( but not always)  ... the thing is, it started with both ears in 2008 and then my right ear went back to normal in 2010 but the left kept going on... it seems that high pitch sounds cause my hearing to be distort. Like if my ear can’t handle the sound. I went to see the doctor and the first ENT, suggested a hearing test which I passed and then they did some type of pressure test and noting was wrong there. He suggested that it might be due to my Ulcerative colitis, but I was not convinced … so I went and saw another ENT but he says he never heard anything like it before…. At that point I decided not to waste more time with the doctors.

Does anyone know what it is ?? or what cause it?

Ménière's disease seems about right but I am not sure

I have a similar problem. Suddenly my left ear started crackling and the outter ear lobe and parts feel numb. I have a sudden loss of hearing in left ear although that ear has always had a ringing in it. I also have a persistant sour taste in my mouth. Also my ear feels plugged up.

I have had the same blown out speaker symptoms in my right ear for over three months now.  I am getting an MRI done in a week and a half.  He is going to rule out that a cyst is not growing on my auditory nerve.  Has anyone else got the MRI to find nothing?  It is so annoying, how about a hearing aid, would that help?

I also have the same symptoms since 1 year(broken speaker sound in one ear, triggered by loud noise. No doctor could help, or give me a satisfying explonation. I read about so much people which suffer from exactly this problem but I haven't got an answer for what's the reason and eventually a cure. I hope the time will come...

Trigger symptoms are quite universal it 'sounds' like { no pun intended }; however one trigger not mentioned, that I have, is if riding on an ATV the broken speaker begins immediately. Does anyone else experience this? I think it relates to the wind blowing in my ear.

I was wondering what the Outcome was. I didn't mean to give a thumbs down. Was just trying to turn the page.

No worries-no hurt feelings here! Actually my symptoms have decreased enormously and the only change that has happened is my doctor put me on Celebrex for my hip-related disability. The only time it has come back was during Christmas in a house with 24 people--it was just too loud and the cracking came back. But I do have to say not for as long a duration or not as intense. I believe in 'general terms' Celebrex aids in inflammation. Coincidence? Don't know. Glad it has subsided? ABSOLUTELY!!! Hope this points you in some direction; please keep in touch--but how will I know your name?

I got the same symptoms whenever traveling by flights. Does it happens only beacause of low atmospheric pressure?
