I have had this exact symptom for about 10 years on my right ear, I found that when ever I am in a loud places or in a noisy back ground, if I keep my mouth shut, the "broken speaker" will not occur.
I also noticed that when ever I open my jaw, the right ear will pop by it self, I have seen 6 ENT and many ear tests in hospitals with no findings, I have also tried to turn the volume up when it happens, same results. I hope we will find a fix soon, I can't even sing too loud to myself.

This is what i narrowed it down to, also certain notes while playing guitar would have the same effect at certain volumes but the volume and tone of loud speaking people with that specific frequency range is becoming more and more painful.
I visited the ENT and they said they saw nothing wrong, sent me to an audiologist who gave me a hearing test which resulted in loss of hearing at certain frequencies but again, no explanation for this horrible broken speaker sound.
It's now ruining one of my favorite hobbies, recording music.
Does anyone out there have a solution?

I brought this up to my ent who did mine and he never heard of it. I find it all the time on forums. The high success rate on the surgery, I've come to realize was the benefit to the surgeon. I had mine 5 years ago and still can't hear anything in that ear.

Usually a round of antibiotics, like a Z-pack, clears it up after a few days.
I'm assuming it's a sinus infection that my body just doesn't think is a big deal enough to completely get rid of it on it's own.
So before you jump into surgery, I'd say give a round of antibiotics a shot under the presumption that it could just be a sinus infection.
