Hello! My father has been diagnosed with gallbladder cancer and he is about to have a gallbladder resection. He has always been a very strong, healthy man, he used to exercise until recently. I am interested in the prognosis after gallbladder resection. Thank you

Hi there! As you already may know, this is a very hard operation. You make sure that you found a very good and specialized surgeon. The prognosis of course depends on the patients attitude, and willingness to survive the whole thing. The survival rate also depends on the stage of the disease, and it is around 5 years of prolonged life. It can be more, it can be less. Prognosis are improved if complete gross tumour resection is combined with radiotherapy.

My mom goes in for the gall bladder resection this Friday. I wanted to see if you have an update on your dad and any advice for us. We have a great doctor I think although they made the diagnosis based on a CAT scan alone. I'm concerned that they didn't do enough thorough testing - even an ultrasound - before making this diagnosis. I'm not a doctor though - is this enough?
Thanks!
