As far as complications, from what I have read if the surgeon is too aggressive in removing excess tissue you can get a anal stricture, so you have to make sure your surgeon has done training in colorectal surgery and not just general surgery. Like any surgery the risk of infection and bleeding is always mentioned. As you surgeon what else he thinks.
The after surgery care is crutial and must be followed strictly. I believe that my outcome was great because of my surgeon's skill AND because I did everything and more that I was told. So I pretty much went in and out of the tub all day for 2 weeks and applied ice bags and drank more water than "The Little mermaid" could swim in. NEVER used soap on the area weeks after surgery, like I was told. Other than a couple of " sking tags" after the surgery that I had removed, I am free as a bird and NEVER have to worry about hemorroids oming back!!! GOOD LUCK!

After a bowel movement, my hemorrhoids increase in size and hurt so much that the pain actually generates down my leg and into my foot on the left side. This pain lasts at times for a couple of days and I have a hard time getting up or walking. I have a terrible time turning over in bed. I have tried sitz baths and suppositories and ointment and these things help but only minimally. I had a colonoscopy recently and the technician said that my hemorrhoids weren't bad at all. I have had hemorrhoids since I have been 18 years old. I am now 60. This is the worst that they have been but as I said I am told that they aren't bad. I was told that I did not have a prolapsed hemorrhoid. I have looked at them in a mirror and when they are hurting after a BM, they are at least 5 times larger than before the BM. The center of the area is actually purple in color with swelling all around that. BMs are 2-3 days apart for me on average. I was told to try cold sitz baths and would like to know if this is accurate information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What is the least painful surgery for hemorrhoids to date...if there is such a thing as painless hemorrhoid surgery.
I feel your pain. I am only 29 and am going through my first boat of them myself. My doctor says they aren't bad, yet the pain nearly makes me sick and my tolerance is pretty good. I have been battling them for nearly 3 months now & I feel as though my life has stopped, as walking, exercise, or just being generally happy doesn't exist anymore. I have not yet gone the route of surgery, but am feeling that it will have to be done soon. I believe in trying everything else first, but I have and to not much prevail. As for the sitz bath, I can't imagine sitting in warm water. All I want is ice packs.
I wish you well.
Ok here is what you need to do. Drink water regularly. 8 glasses a day. Don't chug them in the morning. Just sip all day. Now here is the real solution. Take MIRALAX daily. Double the dose at first then dial it in. I take two doses daily. You can mix it in oj or sprinkle it on your cereal. No more fiber! Fiber bloats and makes it worse. You can get the shame stuff at costco and its cheaperLaxaClear. This pulls water from your body into your colon making it nice and soft. Very safe! Drink water! Oh and its odorless and tasteless

However, I found a cure. I no longer have any sort of this problem. Docs kept trying to sign me up for surgery, but i refused, knowing how painful and frustrating the healing process is. Many times rhoids come back even after surgery.
i found a very simple and effective method that works.
Here is what you must do:
Buy fiber pills. They can be purchased at any grocery/drug store. Take 5 every night before sleep (approx 2.5 grams of fiber in total)
When you feel an urge for a bowel movement, do the following.
1) Fill up your bathtum with warm/hot water, whichever u prefer.
2) Get on the toitlet. Perform bowel movement for no longer then 10-20 seconds. The fiber should help "a lot" to come out. You might still feel like you arent finished, but get up, and jump in the bath tub immediately, and just lie there relaxed for 15-20 mins. For the first 5-10 mins u will feel like u arent finished doing the bowel movement, and will have the urge to go back on the toilet. DONT DO IT. Keep lying in the tub, the feeling will go away. You wont feel swelling or any inflammation after 10-15 mins. You will breath free. Wash your bottom while in the bathtub, and continue with your day. Boom, problem solved.
Because you will only perform bowel movement for 10-20 seconds at a time (DONT GO ANY LONGER), you might need to "go" twice a day.
Just do the same process. Morning/evening schedule work the best! Repeat the EXACT same process every time, religiously, without skipping any steps!
Believe me, this method WORKS. I am a regular person, and I want to help everyone out there with this disgusting problem to finally be free from it!

was incredibly painful.
I had finally had enough of these hemorroids and read a lot on the internet and realized I had prolapse and hemorrhoids from difficult childbirth and that the best option for me sounded like the PPH stapling procedure. They push everything up above the dentate line (where all the nerve endings are) and suture and staple, then take a circular blade in the instrument to cut excess hemorrhoidal tissue.
Well, in my opinion, my first month of recovery was no big deal. I had expected to feel a lot of pain which I didn't. I followed doctor's directions about not lifting heavy options, not going to the gym, etc., for the specific period and I thought my problems were over. I was to go in for a 2 month check-up for follow-up. After month 1, I took my first day of being on my feet for a few hours doing casual shopping (definitely not overdoing it or doing anything against doctor's orders) and to my surprise, the next morning, I woke up to all these thrombosed hemorrhoids that were right inside my rectum having fallen out. I was in severe pain and made an appointment. The PA at the office saw me because the doctor was not in (of course) and she gave me some cortisone cream (not much help) and said if this didn't improve, I'd need a full-blown traditional hemorrhoidectomy. WHAT? I just spent (WITH insurance, about $7,000 on this PPH prodedure.) I was no better in two days and was able to see the doctor, and he didn't even touch me...just had me lay on my side. I told him how bad things were, but I guess some of the swelling had gone down from the cortisone cream, but none of the pain was gone. Anyway, I kept thinking that perhaps I haven't given this healing long enough. The doctor said "everything was fine and even cancelled my 2-month follow-up appointment."
After a few more months, I didn't have the external thrombosed hemorrhoids, as they had returned to internal, but I could not go to the bathroom normally as I felt like something (internal hemmorhoids probably..." were blocking things. Not to be gross, but to pass gas, I had to separate my "cheeks"...there was so little room for anything to escape. I stayed bloated and miserable and was taking mega-Miralax.
I went back to the doctor around the 6-month mark and he asked how I was doing. When I told him, not good. He seemed "surprised" as he said "you seemed like you were doing so good when you were in here last".... (Where was HE????? I NEVER acted like I was fine...) Anyway, he thought perhaps I had some polyps from the PPH that can form along the suture line (clotted blood), so he agreed to do a sigmoidoscopy (which is exploratory) to see what the problem was. I told him, the problem felt much lower down. Unbelievable, he actually examined me this time and did feel some lump of some kind which gave him cause to pursue my concerns. He said I would be out of work about a day.
Before the surgery, I wanted to make SURE the doctor KNEW where my concerns were and they were taken care of. When things are at the entrance, they are often missed by the camera instruments... Thank goodness the nurses and surgical staff put notes all over my file that I needed to talk to him before surgery. To make a long story short, I was put under general anesthesia (originally to be twilight) and a complete traditional hemorrhoidectomy was done to remove severe, large thrombosed hemorrhoids blocking my rectum. No wonder I couldn't go to the bathroom. Let me say that THIS SURGERY is SO much more painful that the PPH surgery, plus, I'm paying money all over again... although at least only about half of PPH. It has taken 10 days to not experience excruciating pain and whatever you do, do not get constipated or any where close to it.. It is a VERY PAINFUL surgery and the recovery time from work is at least 2 weeks. I can't say that my work was very happy after I had told them a day or so.
I just wanted you to hear my story. Even with PPH, I ended up with another surgery. You may be lucky. It is your excruciating pain that I would be concerned about. It sounds like you have a anal fissure as that sounds like the symptoms. I would get a second opinion and possible have a sigmoidoscopy done (it has a camera) and they will KNOW what is wrong with you before they start operating. I think PPH is great if all your hemorrhoids are up high, but they don't do a good job or anything that is low. Yesterday, day 10, was the first day I drove my car (and only a mile) and I can't sit straight up or stand for any periods of time yet, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I THINK that once healed, this ordeal will be over, but I will post again and let everyone know. I hope my ordeal has helped some people .... just make sure your doctor LISTENS TO YOU AND YOUR SPECIFIC SYMPTOMS.... they see about a hundred patients a day, so don't get lost in their rat race at the cost of your own health and well being.
