You actually might not be a candidate for a hemorrhoidectomy if you have Crohn's Disease. I remember my doctor asking me about that during the consult. I would definitely talk to your doctor and see if that would be the right option for you.

Surgery is a permanent solution IF your surgeon removes ALL THREE main columns of hemorrhoids in the rectum as he did with me. In my case he did not know exactly how many he would remove until I was being operated on. At that time, he saw that all 3 columns of hemorroids needed to come out. It has been 7 months since my surgery and I am glad I went throught the surgery.

As far as complications, from what I have read if the surgeon is too aggressive in removing excess tissue you can get a anal stricture, so you have to make sure your surgeon has done training in colorectal surgery and not just general surgery. Like any surgery the risk of infection and bleeding is always mentioned. As you surgeon what else he thinks.

The after surgery care is crutial and must be followed strictly. I believe that my outcome was great because of my surgeon's skill AND because I did everything and more that I was told. So I pretty much went in and out of the tub all day for 2 weeks and applied ice bags and drank more water than "The Little mermaid" could swim in. NEVER used soap on the area weeks after surgery, like I was told. Other than a couple of " sking tags" after the surgery that I had removed, I am free as a bird and NEVER have to worry about hemorroids oming back!!! GOOD LUCK!

I thought I was alone in my suffering. The pain is unbearable. I developed mine when I had my first child. It wasn't until my third child that the pain became unreal. I can't lie down, for me that is the worse position. I basically stay awake until the pain passes which usually can take up to 12 hours.Needless to say, I am exhausted. i have tried everything including seeing a naturalist and a healer....sounds crazy, but willing to do just about anything. I mean really, what do you do when you can't stand up or walk or lie down?? Drink??

I am in the same boat. I have had hemorrhoids for 9 years. Its only in these past 3 months that my pain got unbearable. MY BM is at least once a day and the pain is so excruciating I almost faint. Also I have excessive bleeding, so much that I can hear the bleeding. Because of excessive bleeding I feel as if I am blanking out. My BM is my worst nightmare and I finally persuaded my doctor for Hemorrhoidectomy. I am scared to death with the thought of going under the knife. But what can I do? Its better than this never ending physical and mental pain. The pain has forced me to skip work and I am so miserable I don't even interact with my 4 month old twin girls. I can't live this way and I am glad I will be getting over with this soon.

I had hemorrhoid surgery about 10 years ago. I knew it couldn't possibly hurt any worse after surgery then I was going through before. I had hems since giving birth 28 years ago. Although my hems have come back a bit, they're nothing like what they were. As far as your doctors saying they're not that bad, mine didn't seem to be either but the surgeon still agreed to do the surgery. What he found was dozens of INTERNAL hemorrhoids. Although I had pain from the external ones, it turns out most of the pain was from the internal hems. After a bowel movement, I couldn't do anything but take pain medicine and sit in a hot bath. Applying topical medication doesn't help internal hemorrhoids.

I don't even know what level of Hemroid I got! I am just worried do you think during the years a hemroid is able to develop into anal cancer?! I think I will be seeing a GP soon! If you guys have fully recovered could you please let me know what best worked for you! :-)

I unfortunately relate to all your pain because I just started getting excruciating on going pain myself.  It used to be just for 10 min after BM, but now it actually is 4 hours (just today) it has stopped now )still cannot walk as movement starts it again) but I am shattered, called a doc actually who has giving me Tramadole. It was already bad yesterday so I have eaten much less, I am thinking of fasting has any of you tried that? (perhaps not having any BM for a while will help) Also once it start does that means it just going to be like that each time or do they just flare up sometimes?

hey well I saw my GP and I am way better now :-| . She gave me these stuff u can get them from the chemist with out a prescription and it really works. Ok so just before you go apply (Vaseline) it makes it so much easier then after you are done apply (Rectinol cream) I apply those with my finger just on the surface and if it really hurts I have an Advil pill. My doctor said just like before there is no point in having a procedure since it will just come back again and it will get worse if I get pregnant. Anyways the important thing is I feel better and I have those things every now and then (Normacol) and a glass of (Metamucile) you can get these from the general store or the pharmacy. So I have them with water. My GP said that I should have a lot of liquids and lots of veggies and fruit and dried fruit so I feel better now but unfortunately this is an ongoing problem and has to be taken care of regularly because once I forget about taking Metamucil and Normacol and not having my fruits and veggies I tend to have a great pain I feel like I just wanna die :'( so yeah. I hope you guys get better too Good Luck! :-P

After a bowel movement, my hemorrhoids increase in size and hurt so much that the pain actually generates down my leg and into my foot on the left side. This pain lasts at times for a couple of days and I have a hard time getting up or walking. I have a terrible time turning over in bed. I have tried sitz baths and suppositories and ointment and these things help but only minimally. I had a colonoscopy recently and the technician said that my hemorrhoids weren't bad at all. I have had hemorrhoids since I have been 18 years old. I am now 60. This is the worst that they have been but as I said I am told that they aren't bad. I was told that I did not have a prolapsed hemorrhoid. I have looked at them in a mirror and when they are hurting after a BM, they are at least 5 times larger than before the BM. The center of the area is actually purple in color with swelling all around that. BMs are 2-3 days apart for me on average. I was told to try cold sitz baths and would like to know if this is accurate information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What is the least painful surgery for hemorrhoids to date...if there is such a thing as painless hemorrhoid surgery.

I feel your pain. I am only 29 and am going through my first boat of them myself. My doctor says they aren't bad, yet the pain nearly makes me sick and my tolerance is pretty good. I have been battling them for nearly 3 months now & I feel as though my life has stopped, as walking, exercise, or just being generally happy doesn't exist anymore. I have not yet gone the route of surgery, but am feeling that it will have to be done soon. I believe in trying everything else first, but I have and to not much prevail. As for the sitz bath, I can't imagine sitting in warm water. All I want is ice packs.
I wish you well.

Ok here is what you need to do. Drink water regularly. 8 glasses a day. Don't chug them in the morning. Just sip all day. Now here is the real solution. Take MIRALAX daily. Double the dose at first then dial it in. I take two doses daily. You can mix it in oj or sprinkle it on your cereal. No more fiber! Fiber bloats and makes it worse. You can get the shame stuff at costco and its cheaperLaxaClear. This pulls water from your body into your colon making it nice and soft. Very safe! Drink water! Oh and its odorless and tasteless

Hi, everyone, I would like to first apologize to post today Easter Sunday but I am desperately in need of advice. I am gay, and my partner and I had practicing anal sex for the past several years, and it was painless most of the time (95%) the 5% that was painless was indeed because we didn't use enough lubricant. and I used to experience pain for up to an hour after... it usually went away. One time I remember it was so bad that I started to bleed from one episode and I just put some antiseptic cream, and that took care of it for a while... time went on... Dec of 2010 I started to suffer from Acid Reflex from being overweight and over eating... went into pills for a month or so and nothing seem to help... Had an upper GI and they found a small ulcer, so small that the doctor said it will heal itself or with the pills...a year went by (up to sept 2011) and my acid reflex was gone, I still get everyone now and then small episodes of fire feeling in my oesophagus but I cure it by eating almonds..... in that year I was suffering badly from Acid Relfex I cut completely beans from my diet and I was a mess trying to cure the problems with the natural way, eat things that I thought would help me heal faster, and it way ti did. But I didn't realized that I had cut all my fiber! So in Nov 2011 I experience a bad pain after we had sex, and I bleed from what it looks a tear in my anus area....... every since then I have been suffering from this pain in my anus area that spreads into my left leg and when I sit down for too long I feel this halo pain inside that usually goes away when I stand up..... went to the doctor and he did a ultra sound on the mid section of my abdomen and everything look fine, except that the technician asked if I was suffering from constipation.... and I didn't even know what constipation was! for the longest time I thought going to the bathroom and seen 'bunny poo' was normal!..... my doctor inspected with his finger and said I had haemorrhoids gave me some suppositories but I didn't use them because I was worried of thinning of my skin down there.... I am bit better now but I still feel the pain... and sometimes I see what it looks like blood maron coloured sometimes in the actual poo as small tiny specks and today I wiped and saw this marron colour on the toilet paper after experience a big!! hard poo.....
I ve changed my diet slowly and drink 8 glasses of water a day, I wonder what should I do? thank you so much information I type sorry! thank you, adam.

I've had persistentl, very painful, bleeding hemmorhoids for many years (both external and internal). Even had to go to hospital on more then one ocassion for the matter (prolapsed, swollen, etc, it was hell). No treatment worked, all the creams and medicated wipes only relieved the problem somewhat, but rhoids always came back with a vengeance.

However, I found a cure. I no longer have any sort of this problem. Docs kept trying to sign me up for surgery, but i refused, knowing how painful and frustrating the healing process is. Many times rhoids come back even after surgery.

i found a very simple and effective method that works.

Here is what you must do:

Buy fiber pills. They can be purchased at any grocery/drug store. Take 5 every night before sleep (approx 2.5 grams of fiber in total)

When you feel an urge for a bowel movement, do the following.

1) Fill up your bathtum with warm/hot water, whichever u prefer.

2) Get on the toitlet. Perform bowel movement for no longer then 10-20 seconds. The fiber should help "a lot" to come out. You might still feel like you arent finished, but get up, and jump in the bath tub immediately, and just lie there relaxed for 15-20 mins. For the first 5-10 mins u will feel like u arent finished doing the bowel movement, and will have the urge to go back on the toilet. DONT DO IT. Keep lying in the tub, the feeling will go away. You wont feel swelling or any inflammation after 10-15 mins. You will breath free. Wash your bottom while in the bathtub, and continue with your day. Boom, problem solved.

Because you will only perform bowel movement for 10-20 seconds at a time (DONT GO ANY LONGER), you might need to "go" twice a day.
Just do the same process. Morning/evening schedule work the best! Repeat the EXACT same process every time, religiously, without skipping any steps!

Believe me, this method WORKS. I am a regular person, and I want to help everyone out there with this disgusting problem to finally be free from it!

Hi folks,
I have Crohns disease, I had a hemorrhoidectomy a week ago, Dr said she doesn't normally like to do them on Crohns patients but, they were so bad and I also had Fissure,  it's been ok...not as bad as I thought after reading the hemorrhoid posts on here ( I nearly ran for the hills and cancelled apt) she didn't remove them all, and that is my prob.....cos of the Crohns (which she found some more at the site) I am having BM's at least 5-6 times a day....pretty painful...and it's swelling up the remaining ones also bleeding, I have found the cream Calmoseptine better than any PrepH stuff, and you can get it on the shelf a any Pharmacy. I'm only taking painkillers maybe once a day now, but I do have a high pain threshold.  I think it will all be worth it in the end, and can't wait to be able to sit and be comfortable with no throbbing :-)

I had Level IV hemorrhoids (internal with some protuding) from having my first son (who is almost 16.) It was a terrible delivery as he was a 9 lb. baby and turned sideways. I didn't begin having the severe hemorrhoids for a while, but when they started protruding, I lived with it for as long as I could stand it as I heard traditional hemorrhoid surgery
was incredibly painful.

I had finally had enough of these hemorroids and read a lot on the internet and realized I had prolapse and hemorrhoids from difficult childbirth and that the best option for me sounded like the PPH stapling procedure. They push everything up above the dentate line (where all the nerve endings are) and suture and staple, then take a circular blade in the instrument to cut excess hemorrhoidal tissue.

Well, in my opinion, my first month of recovery was no big deal. I had expected to feel a lot of pain which I didn't. I followed doctor's directions about not lifting heavy options, not going to the gym, etc., for the specific period and I thought my problems were over. I was to go in for a 2 month check-up for follow-up. After month 1, I took my first day of being on my feet for a few hours doing casual shopping (definitely not overdoing it or doing anything against doctor's orders) and to my surprise, the next morning, I woke up to all these thrombosed hemorrhoids that were right inside my rectum having fallen out. I was in severe pain and made an appointment. The PA at the office saw me because the doctor was not in (of course) and she gave me some cortisone cream (not much help) and said if this didn't improve, I'd need a full-blown traditional hemorrhoidectomy. WHAT? I just spent (WITH insurance, about $7,000 on this PPH prodedure.) I was no better in two days and was able to see the doctor, and he didn't even touch me...just had me lay on my side. I told him how bad things were, but I guess some of the swelling had gone down from the cortisone cream, but none of the pain was gone. Anyway, I kept thinking that perhaps I haven't given this healing long enough. The doctor said "everything was fine and even cancelled my 2-month follow-up appointment."

After a few more months, I didn't have the external thrombosed hemorrhoids, as they had returned to internal, but I could not go to the bathroom normally as I felt like something (internal hemmorhoids probably..." were blocking things. Not to be gross, but to pass gas, I had to separate my "cheeks"...there was so little room for anything to escape. I stayed bloated and miserable and was taking mega-Miralax.
I went back to the doctor around the 6-month mark and he asked how I was doing. When I told him, not good. He seemed "surprised" as he said "you seemed like you were doing so good when you were in here last".... (Where was HE????? I NEVER acted like I was fine...) Anyway, he thought perhaps I had some polyps from the PPH that can form along the suture line (clotted blood), so he agreed to do a sigmoidoscopy (which is exploratory) to see what the problem was. I told him, the problem felt much lower down. Unbelievable, he actually examined me this time and did feel some lump of some kind which gave him cause to pursue my concerns. He said I would be out of work about a day.

Before the surgery, I wanted to make SURE the doctor KNEW where my concerns were and they were taken care of. When things are at the entrance, they are often missed by the camera instruments... Thank goodness the nurses and surgical staff put notes all over my file that I needed to talk to him before surgery. To make a long story short, I was put under general anesthesia (originally to be twilight) and a complete traditional hemorrhoidectomy was done to remove severe, large thrombosed hemorrhoids blocking my rectum. No wonder I couldn't go to the bathroom. Let me say that THIS SURGERY is SO much more painful that the PPH surgery, plus, I'm paying money all over again... although at least only about half of PPH. It has taken 10 days to not experience excruciating pain and whatever you do, do not get constipated or any where close to it.. It is a VERY PAINFUL surgery and the recovery time from work is at least 2 weeks. I can't say that my work was very happy after I had told them a day or so.

I just wanted you to hear my story. Even with PPH, I ended up with another surgery. You may be lucky. It is your excruciating pain that I would be concerned about. It sounds like you have a anal fissure as that sounds like the symptoms. I would get a second opinion and possible have a sigmoidoscopy done (it has a camera) and they will KNOW what is wrong with you before they start operating. I think PPH is great if all your hemorrhoids are up high, but they don't do a good job or anything that is low. Yesterday, day 10, was the first day I drove my car (and only a mile) and I can't sit straight up or stand for any periods of time yet, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I THINK that once healed, this ordeal will be over, but I will post again and let everyone know. I hope my ordeal has helped some people .... just make sure your doctor LISTENS TO YOU AND YOUR SPECIFIC SYMPTOMS.... they see about a hundred patients a day, so don't get lost in their rat race at the cost of your own health and well being.
