Sorry to hear that.
I know nothing about PAE- went with DR. Lingeman at Indiana and had a great result with HOLEP.
I would make an appointment with Dr. Lingeman or a reputable Holep surgeon as discussed on this board.

I had a PAE done at Georgetown in Washington, DC. My prostate only shrunk 20%, which wasn't enough to alleviate any symptoms. Then GL at a local hospital. Huge mistake!!! Had to go more frequently. Dr. Bandi at Georgetown did my HOLEP. Little incontinence for 1 month, gone 3 months later. Peeing like a 25 year old now

Not so re: private practice. Dr. Garrick Simmons from Five Valley Urology in Missoula, MT performs a great number of HoLEP surgeries each year. As a resident he learned from Dr. Lingeman in Indianapolis. Procedure couldn't have been better for me. I believe Dr. Simmons could perform HoLEP's in his sleep. And the procedure is performed at the renowned St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula.

Glad to hear your results, this is my first. PSA was 10.35 and had trouble of clotting after my biopsy in which I had 5 different catheters in a 9 day period and my prostrate is 171, which the Doc said that that is huge. I am hoping that this will work. Going in this month for it. not sure which one they plan on doing. Either or, I will be glad to get rid of this catheter. Then we will deal with the cancer issue. Just looking for positive information on this issue. I am 68 yoa and this year is the first time I have ever had any health problems or been in a hospital over night.

I had a PAE as well. Not much benefit and really a waste of time. I researched Greenlight TURP and found similar experiences of some patients having disastrous complications. I had a Urolift which had some benefit but not complete relief. I travelled 100 miles to Georgetown University based on this blog. My prostate was fairly large as well 89ml. Dr. Bandi did a holep 3 months ago. No leakage, no pain. Great outcome. I highly recommend this procedure. I believe it is the GOLD STANDARD for enlarged prostate, as they say in medicine.

Great news....I had the holmium laser  or holep procedure performed on me by Dr Chandler Dora at St Joseph's Hospital South in the Tampa FL area on 3-13-2017...about a week ago. Was in the hospital Monday 6 AM until noon on Tuesday (about 30 hrs)... very little pain, some blood. Great Dr, staff, and hospital.... when you call Dr Dora see if you can speak with Gina in their office...she is excellent and will arrange everything. Dr Dora is highly skilled, personable, and has trained with the best holep Drs...he did a great job and made nice follow-up phone call 2 days ago. I can't speak more highly of all of them. That is great news...I'm scheduled in 2 months. Can you tell me if you needed to stay a couple nights post surgery or were you able to fly back the next day? Also, do they send you home with a foley?

Hello.... I only had to stay overnight. I was admitted to hospital at 6 am Monday...surgery began at 7:30 am lasted about 2 hours... I was totally out during the surgery of course had some post op recovery time with observation and then went up to my room by early afternoon. There was no pain... they did a constant flush with the cath (what they call a bilateral cath) in place until morning to help flush blood etc then then removed the cath the following morning and I was discharged by noon or so. It was amazing to me... I still have minimal blood mixed in with urine when I pee, but not much. BTW... I also had stones removed also done w/Holmium laser... a couple were about 22 mm in diameter trapped in the bladder by the increased size of the prostate. The Dr estimated the size of my prostate to be 100 to 125 cc. Very glad I went with the Holep procedure. We actually drove home about 5 days later...it is 9 hr drive and I drove 1/2 way too! If you want to know more drop a note! Take care. Dr Dora and his staff are great!!!

Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear how well you're doing! Those were some pretty large kidney stones...did you know they were there prior? I was told by my uro that my prostate is around 50- 60 grams much smaller then most here. Honestly not sure why I'm in retention hoping it is the prostate and not a neurogenic bladder which if the cause I realize holep will not help. My consult is scheduled for a Tuesday and at that time will be given surgery time for next day Wednesday. I was planning on staying at a hotel after release for 2 nights then flying back home. Now that I hear you stayed 5 days I'm thinking of extending my stay in case any complications should arise.

Yea 2 big ones and a bunch of babies... stuck there due to the large prostate. the hotel stay for 2 days is probably fine... our daughter lives N of Tampa so we stayed with them there... she's an RN too so I had great care! You won't be driving the plane so I think you'll do just fine... the only complication I could imagine would be excessive bleeding... the laser seems to handle that well... ask your doc and see what he/she says... keep writing if you need to....rich

Appreciate it...Thanks Rich! I'm on blood thinners from heart attack 6 months ago...happened a week after going into retention. When it rains it pours. I think I should be fine with 48 hours...could always extend my stay if need be.

I have coronary artery disease too... had a 4 way bypass in 2007 and a pacer/defib placed about 2 1/2 yrs ago. The fluid retention can be bad. My cardio doc has me on (Losartan and Carvedelol-to slow the heart) plus 40mg furosemide and Spironolactone 25mg to shed fluid daily. (I also take Metformin 2x day for sugar control) The only thinner is 81 mg aspirin/day. My cardio doc checked me out the other day post- Holep... seems all is well. (Our son is a cardio RN nurse plus, like I said, my daughter and wife being both RN's keep me on the "straight and narrow"! They are all good and encouraging (and knowledgable) for me) Fortunately I have had no heart attacks, but my family all died of heart related illness. Mom 67, dad 71, 2 bros... 57 & 61 and a sister @ 53. So I am very thankful for being alive at 68! Stay as active as you can of course! BTW... my holep doc D/C'd my aspirin for a month so check with yours about that and let the holep Dr know about what he recommends. Keep me posted on your progress... rich in S Carolina

Hi cedar88,
My situation is similar to yours (age and profession). It appears that it has been a year since the surgery. How is it going?
