I am In the same boat with you, I have some retention, get up 3 times per night, but not sure that this is without big risk and other
problems after surgery. These docs are used car salesman, meaning, they will tell you anything to get the 'sale' All of them are
the same, been to 7 or 8 uros. Im being very very cautious and not jump into this unless it its totally necessary which I view as
of now, as not an urgent necessity at this time. I even questin the docs size of my prostate, at 180g, I can still void 20-50 grams
each time and my retention is about 150, not too bad, but I do get infection now and then, use cipro. How can you get proof
of size of prostate? They keep all the records. As of now, I am just waiting. Might die of heart attack before I need surgery
Age 67, very fit and healthy except for prostate.

I would try Dr. Lingeman at Indiana Univ.---I agree with you regarding all of the local urologists-they only have a little clue as to what is going on. However, even they can measure your prostate size fairly accurately. A 180 gram prostate is large--I would see a reputable specialist like the Mayo Clinic or Dr. Lingeman. I had the HoLep with Dr. Lingeman last Jan. and am doing quite well-never used a pad; have RE; but sex life is good.

Agreed- Dr. Lingeman is "the man"--I had the HoLep in Jan., 2013 and am doing well. No issues other than retrograde. It did take a while to heal, however. Dr. Lingeman is the best.

Please see my prior posts regarding the cost with Dr. Lingeman: Methodist Hospital $20,000; Dr. Lingeman $4,000; Anesthesiologist: $1,400, plus misc.
Well worth it-I was prepared to pay for it myself, but, with the help of CA. Managed Care, we got our Insurance Company to pay for most of it under our policy--"out of geographical area".-- Bill in CA

Thank you for your reply. Yeah, need to check with my insurance (Obamacare/Aetna) if they cover it. There is nobody in Florida doing it and I think it is the best option for sure. I was almost accepting green light but after reading about HoLep I will go this way. Any problems with incontinence afterwards? How long it last?
Again thanks for your reply

As far as incontinence afterwards, I had none. --Zero.
(I left the pads in the hotel trash in Indianapolis). incontinence??---Not a problem--ever.
I am pleased with HoLep--Greenlight is a local option, but the Trip to Indiana was worth it. I went to the best and have no regrets--only praise for HoLep. Dr. Lingeman is very skilled and great personality. Bill in CA

I had the Holep procedure done in Oct 2014, actually Halloween but there were no vampires among the surgical staff so all went well. Dr Humphreys at the Phoenix Mayo did the honors and among all available options I would do exactly the same again. I had no pain, not ever, a bit of pink urine for seven days then that was over as well. I can knock the bark off of a tree, better than any time in the last thirty years or so.  I had done my research and I expected a good result but I have to say Dr Humphreys, his staff and the Mayo exceeded all expectations. I had retrograde ejaculation for the last eight to ten years because of all the medications so I was used to that and I don't expect that to improve.   The Dr removed about 85% of the prostate volume and stated that only about 1% need another procedure later. I am overjoyed with the outcome and the quality of my life now.
