Quick, and very sharp intermittent pain on right side of head

Has anyone ever experienced a quick and sharp pain on the right side of their head?  Lately, I started getting them and while they last only a second or two, it can happen when walking or sleeping and is very scary.  I just hope it isn't anything serious, and will tell my GP next week.  My head also feels heavy, like when you are not well rested.  I will probably suggest to my GD I see a neurologist, if he doesn't.
