So, Hello !

I have been a pot smoker for sometime. I was fine when it was a Saturday night only thing. But, about a year and four months ago, it became a daily thing and has been to this date. Now, I am looking to stop doing it daily. Some background, I don't smoke a HUGE amount. I only smoke 2 bowls before sleep around 9 every night. I have did a lot of looking around on the web, and I've came to understand that at night before sleep is the worst time to smoke. So, with that said, I am expecting a rocky ride. I feel why I want to stop daily usage is that I just don't enjoy it anymore. I don't get 'stoned' anymore from it, and I feel that I am throwing money away. I smoke around 60bux worth a week. I figure quitting now will be a LOT easier then in 5 years from now, or even 10.

So, I have a question. I was talking to my friend. She was a BIg 4 sess a day pot smoker for 7 years. Daily too, she quit cold turkey, she had the withdrawal syms like everyone else gets. But she told me take one Tylenol PM for the first five nights to get past the sleeplessness part. I know that I will still have intense dreams. I have used PM's before and they do work good. But I am just worried that if I use them for the first few nights, that when I go off of them I will either not be able to sleep which would make the first few nights a waste then. So, my question is, does it make sense to use it for a few nights to establish a healthy sleeping pattern? Or is that just plain bs?

I can never say that I will never smoke weed again. But I can say that if I do get through the withdrawal, I will make it months in between each time I touch it. I know what to expect with what I'm going to experience.
That girl told me other then the sleeping part, there is nothing else that you can do to help yourself other then just wait it out.

Also, I heard jogging everyday after quitting is a great way to get passed the withdrawal effects, and is this true? I know I can get through this, but its the sleeping part that scares me. Any help would be a huge thanks !

Hi:
Congratulations on your desire to live a more healthy lifestyle. My only caution would be that you don't want to swap one addition for another. However, a little assistance with the withdrawal symptoms may be wise, so that you don't suffer so much that you will quit your detox plan. You know yourself better than anyone. Could you take the Tylenol and then manage to stop using it without a problem? You may have to sweat it out somewhat. I hope that the withdrawal experience will convince you not to continue using at any level. The chemicals in weed are poisonous, contrary to popular belief. In addition, there are long-term effects. You are very lucky. Weed is called a gateway drug because when people, like yourself, no longer get a satisfactory high from it, they move on (thru the gate) to other, stronger drugs. It doesn't sound like you are going to be doing that. Good luck to you. Please share your experience with us so that you can be helpful to others. Best wishes.

Taking a sleeping pill to help with the symptoms should be fine. Try using one that's not habit forming because sleeping pills can be highly addictive, but other than that, that will help you get through this. Don't take it unless you actually need to though, since it'd be taking unnecessary medication after all. Exercise will help a lot though. You can help yourself quite a bit by finding a habit to replace your old habit. Keep us posted on how it goes! We're eager to hear how you do.
