First off, I'm new to this site so please bare with me if I'm not doing this right.
Ok, I'm a 17 year old girl and about eight months ago I had this really really bad pain on my right side. I couldn't even move it hurt so bad, but I didn't tell my parents until three days later because I couldn't take the pain anymore. I thought it was just an appendix attack because when I was nine I had one and was sent to the doctor. It was almost the same pain except that when I was nine, they never found what was wrong with me.
Anyways, I went to the doctor, and they did all kinds of tests, blood test, urine, CT scan, etc. She ended up with the conclusion that I had an ovarian cyst that when it ruptured or whatever it caused me great pain, but that was her educated guess. There was no proof.
Anyways, the doctor told me that it might occur again but after I have my period it should go away. That was true until recently. For the past month, I have been getting these random pains. It started after I got back from vacation. The pains can be anywhere from right under my right ribs to the middle stomache and lower. It's kind of hard to explain without showing. I just had a urinary tract infection about 3 months ago. I don't know if its from that or not.
I thought the pains would go away after my period, but I just had my period last week, and it hurt worse. Also, it smelt weird. Usually my period flow doesn't really smell, but this time it did. It was strong to, well at least to me. The smell is gone now that my period is done, but the cramping pains are still there. It's different from a stomache ache. It's like between a pain and a cramp. Sometimes its just dull, and other times it hurts a lot. I don't know what it is, but I don't like going to my doctor. I've been there waaayyy too many times lately.
Any thoughts??? I really would like some help. It seems that lately everything that has gone wrong with me lately has been in the same area. It is starting to kind of freak me out. I don't know if its in my head or whatever. I just know it hurts, and I would like some help or answers. If you have had this before please tell me about it. I'm curious to know what it is.

I still need help. :-(
I think I am going to go on birth control to stop the cysts, but my GYNO visit isn't until Aug. 7th. Should I go to my regular doctor until then?

Yup, for the past week I've been getting really bad headaches and my throat has been killing me plus I've been exhausted. My bf's sister has had these problems and to ease the pain of the stomach or side area there are these heating stick on pad things. I forgot what they are called but they are for easing period cramps. You find them in the section by the tampons and stuff. I used that when I went on vacation, and now that I'm home i use a heating pad. For medicine I just take regular over the counter stuff and try to go to bed.
The pain and tiredness is getting too much for me. I can't wait for the Aug 7th Gyno visit. I'm going to my regular doctor tomorrow to see whats up. I feel absolutely horrible right now. I'll post what she says.

Hi
I realise that you posted over a year ago so I hope that you are better now. I just want to share my experience in case it can help you or someone else.
My case started similar to yours - around age 13 I was hospitalised overnight for suspected appendicitis then sent home fine.
By the time I was 17 I was getting the pains you described every few weeks. It wasn't a regular pattern, it would hurt for a few days and then stop. I would usually try to rationalise it, maybe I'd pulled a muscle exercising, or got hit while playing sports or something. I had absolutely no other symptoms.
Then one day I literally blacked out from the pain. I went to the doctor who took a handheld ultrasound (only sound, no picture) and insisted I was pregnant. I argued to be referred to a specialist who diagnosed an ovarian cyst. It was 11cms in diameter.
I had a laparotomy to remove the cyst.
That was 10 years ago and I still get pain sometimes. I don't know whether it's caused by scarring or just in my head, but at least it's nowhere near as bad as it was.
I have no idea how long the cyst was there, whether it was related to the pain I had when younger or not. But if you still have pains even with no other syptoms I advise you to insist on an ultrasound. Hope this may help someone.
