My niece has been facing an usual problem, ever since she returned to India after a two year stint in USA. She is unable to drink any water, mineral or otherwise, without having sever throat infection. However if the water is boiled she is able to sustain. Its now over a year and she has not been able to settle down. Does anyone have any information on this condition ?

hi dethiraj,

you neice has most likley gotten "spoiled" interms of water quality.

while she was in india her body had natural immunity to many pathogens which are found in your warter but since she was in the USA. her body was not expased to theos organisms and she lost some of her ability to fight it off. now upon returning she is drinking local "contaminated" water and getting sick. this happened so someone in south america whe was in the US and then upon returning he drank the water he normaly drank and got so sick he nearly died.

when you boil the water you are killing any pathogenic organisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites fungi, that may maker her sick. this is why she is able to drink boiled water and be fine but drink unboiled and get sick..

hope this helps :-)

Thank you. The explanation does help in understanding the cause. I would welcome suggestions on how to go about building the immunity in a phased / regulated manner, f there is any. Its now 14 months she has returned home and has not been able to settle down on this front while her life style has reverted back successfully in all other respect.

well normally once you get sick your body bill build immunity against whatever made you sick. but of course that depends on what she got sick with.... viruses normally get immunity built against them and bacteria do i believe to a certian extent parasites dont. does she ever get an upset stomach or diarrhea when she drinks the water. how long do these symptomes last and what are they. does she go on antibiotics every time?

thanks

The reaction is invariably in the form of feverish feeling, accompanied by painful throat. Yes. She has to go on antibiotics every time.

what does her throat look like?? have the doctors take a throat culture and test what type of organism is growing and making her ill. if possible it would be a good idea to have the water tested to see what is living in it.... are there any other symptomes she has after drinking the water?? and about how soon after she drinks it does she get sick?
