Also, beware that never taking deep breaths can mean that you don't clear your lungs properly and that can lead to a chest infection. I don't want to imagine how it would feel to have a cough right now. The doctor strongly advised me to keep taking pain killers, so that I can breath deeply and so more easily clear any phlegm out of my lungs.

I wish someone would have told me that the 4-6-8 weeks they say for recovery aren't accurate. The first day it didn't hurt. But by night 2 and 3 it felt like I was drowning in the air and I shook and passed out from the pain. I think it's because the swelling goes down after the day and you can really feel the damage done. It will hurt worse to lay down, more than anything else. And oddly enough, after 4-6 weeks it hurt worse to lay in the side opposite my broken rib.
Research and take vitamins specific for bone, skin, etc. I took calcium, magnesium, lystine, biotin, and I think a few others. I took them after the 8 weeks "recovery time" were up bc it still wasn't getting much better. I think the vitamins helped get it to heal.
You'll have days where I feels better and worse. It's a really weird feeling and you're aware that it's there. Hang in there. It will get better even if it feels like it's not.

Sold by: Powder City. I cracked 2 back ribs. I healed in 2 mos. 2 weeks and I don't honestly know if the supplement helped or not but the MDs said 3 mos or so.

I just fell of the horse three weeks ago and broke a rib. I was in so much pain I was not able to get up. Once in urgent care the x-rays showed the broken rib. The first 6 days I could not get out of bed. Believe me, I was not stupid to lay down, I had three pillows besides me and to this day still am sitting up straight to sleep. After those first 6 fays I was able to get up and move in slow motion, I am still in pain if I move. It sounds like you had a cracked crib and not a broken one, because if you had a broken rib you would not have moved much after you broke it, maybe it depends on which rib you broke too. THe hardest part is making it through the 6 weeks, I am half way there.
