Hello,
My son recently turned 2 and today he came to me crying about his peepee, I checked to see what was the matter and I didn't see anything at first, when I pulled the skin back a little I saw a red ring right where the base of the head is. It looks irritated like it could begin bleeding at any minute. Maybe when he was given a bath the soap was not rinsed enough and has irritated it??? Please help, my poor boy is in pain ?? The Dr. can't see him until Thursday afternoon!!

Hi newmomma.

I'm new here so I'm kind of surfing the site and I see you didn't get an answer.
By now of course you've seen the doctor.
First I'd like to congratulate you for taking good care of your son's penis. If you got soap in there you must be rolling his foreskin all the way back to clean under it. There seem to many questions here from guys who never even knew their foreskin is supposed to roll back or be cleaned under. Many seem to have problems because their mothers never rolled it back to clean under it. As a result it's painful for them to roll it back. My mother was told by her doctor to do it every time she bathed me and she did until I was about 6 years old, when she turned the job over to me, but still checked to be sure I did it.

I found that if I don't rinse the soap off well so there are traces of it under my foreskin after I return it to it's normal position, it will be very sore under there the next day. Usually just behind the head, as the rim seems to trap moisture behind it. I can't tell you if it was ever red because I learned to rinse it really well so long ago I don't remember.
