I had an operation to correct a bunion almost six months ago. Unfortunately, the bone that should have been broken to realign my big toe was smashed, and a 3 cm metal pin was inserted inside the smashed parts to keep it all together (the pin is not visible, but buried in the bone). I was told the pin would stay in for life, but the pain in my foot has never gone away, and the pin is now poking through under the skin between the bridge of my foot and my big toe. I now have to go back to have it removed. Can anyone tell me what this is likely to involve, and what the recovery time will be like? Many thanks.
