Has anyone had to get a pin put into their foot after bunion surgery? I had the metatarsol bone cut and a wedge taken out (w/a screw and k-wires) 3 wks ago? The Dr. told me this week that the bone had somehow shifted (I'm non-weight bearing in a cast) but the overall placement was good. Because the shift has caused the bones to be a little more gapped than she would like, she suggested installing a pin to secure (going in from outside of foot) the two bones together and help the bone grow back into the space. She gave me the OPTION of doing this or seeing if the bone will just grow back together on its own. I'm young and healthy so I'm a little unsure! Anyone know anything about this or had this done? I also worry that if they drill the pin in there is a slight chance (she sd 15%)it could move the placement of the bones and result in them re-opening the original incision and having to replace the bones w/a plate! This is all SCARY!!!

I had bunion surgery, one of the worst ones you can have, and i had a faulty boot, and some how the bone shifted upward so instead of walking with my big toe and the bottom touching first, i am walking on my second toe, but no pins put in.
