Hi. Since the beginning of May I've had reoccuring swollen lymph nodes in my neck - the ones right by the tonsils, and consequently, pain when swollowing. Not severe pain, but enough to make swollowing uncomfortable enough to take Ibuprofin. This lasts for about 3 days, and then disappears althogether for about a week.
Some history.
I'm fairly healthy & 37 years old. I worked in a smoking, badly ventilated environment for about 1.5 years starting @ age 15. I continued to work with smokers in an excellently ventilated area with them mostly smoking outdoors for another 4.5 years. During this time I may have tried a cigarette 5 times. Since then, no smoking and no exposure.
Beginning of April 2006, I had fairly invasive dental surgery to replace bone between 2 molars. At the same time the gum was lifted to the 2nd level to allow the periodontist to pull the gum down over the slightly exposed root of some teeth. I don't have periodontal desease everywhere in my mouth, only in 3 separate places. This surgery treated the 3rd area.
I moved to central florida in June 04. I also have allergies, and am allergic to pollen in general and was to dust mites, but that has apparently gone away. I started receiving allergy shots @ beginning of Feb 06.
At the beginning of May 06 I started having allergy problems. No sinus issues really, but mild asthma (which I had in the past) itchy throat (which I scratch with growling), and itchy eyes. My doc. says she can't see anything unusual wrong with my throat & my allergist says My recurring pain swallowing is not something he has ever heard of in relation to allergies. I've really tried not to scratch my throat by growling since I was wondering if that was irritating my lymph nodes, and since I've been taking Advair (3 days now) and another antihistamine (1 nite so far) the throat has actually not been so itchy. Nevertheless the recurring pain began again yesterday - since I've been taking these allergy drugs which have actually been helping me.
So, I just can't figure out what it could be and my doctors don't seem to be particularly motivated to find out.
Can you help?
