I just went through all of this almost a month ago. Luckily they left my ovary but had to drain 400cc of blood from abdomen, cauterize blood vessels and capillaries, and almost did a transfusion. Before they realized I was internally bleeding they said that many times when a cyst ruptures and you have fluid in your abdomen it is b/c the cyst had a sac of it. As long as it isn't actual hemorrhaging they do not have to do surgery and your body will absorb the fluid on it's own. This is probably what happened in your case.

I had an ovarian cyst rupture with internal bleeding after intercourse. I thought I had the stomach flu. I was vomitting, in a mega amount of pain, and passing out. I had no idea I was internally bleeding. After the worst night of my life I was rushed to the Er via ambulance and after a full day of tests was rushed into surgery. I needed 2 blood transfusions after the surgery. I almost died. Moral of the story...if you're vomitting, can't walk, passing out, and screaming out in pain get to the hosptial right away!!!

Reading all these posts is for me very interesting! I had emergency surgery 7 years ago when i was passing out and my BP was bottoming out. at the time they had no idea, i went through a Five hour emergency surgery, had lost 2.5lts of blood prior to the surgery and another 600mls during before they found that the blood was coming from a small rupture on an apparently normal looking ovary. they could not repair it and ended up taking it out.
life since then has been very different, I always have feared it happening again, though my surgeons had told me that it was rear to happen to healthy ovaries like mine, not poly cystic that is, I have no endo either nor any other abnormalities.
At the time i had been in a very highly stressed job with a boss who was out to get me and I had literally just left. it was like my body who had been through so much tension for two years just went pop! I nearly died it changed my life.
Well this year only this month it happened AGAIN! considering I had been told it was a 1 in 200,000 chance to happen the first time I have been floored. I have not this time lost the Ovary thank goodness so we can still try for kids. At first it was the same as you have all said, the Drs sent me home on heaps of pain meds, only this didn't help, the pain stayed intense right up till they decided to operate. I was lucky this time I didn't bleed much and they could go in via key hole surgery, last time I was opened right up!
the only thing that has been the same as last time in my life is intense stress. I again was just on the out of a very stressful 18months, huge stress!
So ladies we need to look after ourselves. I really feel for those of you that have polycystic ovaries or endo because for you the pain is going to be there and I really could not cope with that pain all the time. being myself very active and working in a very physical industry.
I really do think that dr need to take more care and not just say 'oh its just a ruptured cyst go home and sleep it off'

Surgeons removed a friend's appendix and right ovary when her cyst burst. Was their a way she could have saved them?

After 4 years I found out that I have endometriosis. I had a endometrial ablation which helped but not totally. 8 months later the ablation failed. At 36 I needed a total hysterectomy. The Dr said the ovarian tissue from that right ovary had wrapped itself around my bowels and had infiltrated into the bowels. Which she believes that it's the result of the emergency surgery. I don't mean to scare you but pay attention just in case. The surgery could lead to issues later on, 1) endometriosis and scar tissue. 2) my daughter was diagnosed with endometriosis at 15 yrs old which could also be a result of the emergency surgery, if I had Endo during my pregnancy with her and birth. Please pay attention if you have a daughter and she starts having female issues.
