Hi there, I am a guy who is 26 years old. I have a sister who has been diagnosed for schizoaffective disorder. I only know that she has been seeing people which weren't there and she has been hearing voices. I would be most grateful if you tell me more of this condition. Thank you in advance for everything you write.

Greetings, I am really sorry to hear all of this. Schizoaffective disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis for patients who suffer from mood disorder and psychosis at the same time. It usually comes in early adulthood and it is more common for females. I will tel you something about treatment now.Except standard treatment some people even use cannabis. Treatment is consisted of therapy and medicines. The most common medicines used for schizoaffective disorder are: Depakote ER, Lithium salts, Risperdal and Seroquel. Sometimes full recovery may happen but it is not the same for every patient.

we are in the UK and my poor son is incapacitated becuase of this illness. He devoloped it when he was 20, comeing home from work with stories of people talking in another language etc. He had a good job, good dj but was smoking skunk. Eventually he was sacked from his job and the atmosphere at home deteriorated to the extent after months of anguish our GP arranged an assesment. How shocked was we when the Phsychiatrist said it was behavioural and the ambulance etc went away. Of course things got really bad then and by this time he had not 1 friend left, The poloice came round 1 morning and took him away as he hadn't turned up for a court case for assault. We never let him back in, thinking he would realise and alter his behaviour. He went homeless for abt 2 yrs before 1 of the probation officers thought there was something wrong with him, eventually he was put on a section 3, He was on a depot of Depixol plus the antidote drugs. The council got him a place and he was doing OK but the phsychiatrist reduced his medication then stopped it and eventually they lost contact with him, I had to write letters before i got any action eventually he was sectioned again. His main symptoms are self neglect, and believe me before he was ill he showered twice a day designer clothes etc. Well he is now on Respiridone depot plus anti depressants (which he doesnt take unless prompted). The point of my story is He looks the same now as when he was last sectioned, but the medical team say he is responding to treatment etc but this illness causes the self neglect. So thats it, will he be left stablesised and dirty for the rest of his life???????? I write letters after letters to the authorities but it seems there is nothing more that can be done!!!!???? what a waste of a young life
