After surgery, this is common to everyone. You should meet with a therapist and take the rest to get relief from pain.

Don't be afraid of the surgery because these Drs. do them all the time with great success. Just be patient and obey your Dr. about what you can and can not do. If you have had this sciatica pain for a long time...it takes a while for the swelling to go down.

My first spine surgery's either 11, 2010 or 11, 2011. My complaint was low back pain. He said: "We must do the cervical spine before the Lumbar as that may help." He operated Anteriorly. No relief! Next was a L5-S1 fusion, Again anteriorly. The problem got worse. Begged him for a redo. "That's all I can do for you". The pain was worse. Went to a second surgeon who said, "I can help relieve the pain." He did. He did a posterior fusion of L4,5 and S1. Pain was drastically reduced, however, so were my movements. I had a drop or numb right foot. Can't move foot at all. Pain returned in about 18 to 24 months, Pain worsened and about 18 months ago, my balance became so bad, I had to walk with a cane (now, a walker). #4 surgery and #3 doctor did an anterior C-4, 5 and 6 fusion with discectomy replaced it and removed what #1 quacker put in. 4 months go by, still no relief with lower back pain. Pins & needles down both arms, ice cold fingertips and balance is worse. Get's me into the hospital within a week. #5 posterior fusion C3 to C7. Pins and needles and cold fingertips dissipating. Balance is just sad bad. Coordination of hand movements worse then before--my left mores then my right. Still on a walker. Before I can do another surgery, #6,--T12-L1 fusion, as a result of my 18 months of inactivity, I put on 20 pounds and stopped leaving the house, except to see doctors. I'm fearful of being in crowds as anyone can hurt me with an error in movement. I'm in a neck brace from my last surgery. A screw in an ankle break some 5 years prior has worked loose and is threatening to break through the skin. Should that happen before the doctor's remove it, I'm threatened with a bone infection. Says we must attend to it quickly. "When", I ask. "As soon as you come out of the brace." My cardiologist has discovered 4 enlarged veins in my leg. they need to go in, implant stents to narrow them down before I lose my leg. "When", I ask. "As soon as you come out of the brace." I'm 68. I was in top shape just 18 months back even with the back pain. Weights, Cardio, and swimming 2 miles a day until my balance went. Had I known what the first spine surgery would lead to, I'd have never done the first one. I'd have just stayed on their feeble attempts at controlling the pain with Morphine, Fentanyl, Oxycodone, hydro morphone and 210 mg a day of methadone, the last because I would run short on the pain meds, even substituting it with street heroin--so much cheeper and effective, then buying the street pills in the amounts i was taking. I finally detoxed--it took 2.5 years to do so--and I've come to some uncomfortable terms: I'm going to be in pain and without balance the rest of my life; I will be dependent upon others until I die either of natural causes, a botched surgery or I choose to end it myself. I have no plan to do the latter but I now live on junk food and candy, hoping to end it quicker.

Thank you, I needed to hear this after a lamino-foraminotomy. The original nerve pain is gone, but now I have almost more painful nerve pain. They tell me the nerve has been compressed for so long that now it’s “woken up”. And it will need a “cooling down time” keeping my fingers crossed.

After having 2 herniated disc surgeries and the surgeon “nicked” my sciatic nerve almost 20 years ago. I am in chronic, severe pain every single day and after facet blocks they could not do any more because scar tissue gets worse & the needle would NOT go in any more. I limp and my life has been nothing but severe pain. I take “scheduled drugs” which help but still not enough. Don’t have any more surgeries or procedures! As tinn mom e passed your pain grows even worse from being compressed by scar tissue and narrowing of your back. See PAIN Management and DO NOT GAVE ABY MORE PROCEDURES. This was advised by Cleveland Clinic to me 20 years ago and said NOTHING RLSR CAN BE DONE EXCEPT USE PAIN MEDS TO MABAGE THE CHRONIC PAIN. SO SORRY TO GIVE YOU A NOT GOOD LONG TERM SYNOPSIS, But my Drs were correct! IT HAD GROWN WORSE OVER TIME AND NOTHING ELSE CAN BE DONE. The more procedures you have the more scar tissue which exacerbated the problems.
I wish i had gone to court 20 years ago as advised. While still in the hospital SEVERAL NURSES SAID TO SUE MY SURGEON. My surgeon never showed his face again AFTER MY DURGETY while i was in the hospital. He knew what he did and I am close to 70 years old and just try to live each day the best i can. Warm water pools are the place you can do exercising for your condition. DON’T let any other Dr do anything and @live” in warm water and pain meds which are the only true options.
Good luck and find therapeutic warm water pools for therapy.
