Reading theses posts are somewhat alarming because there is a STI called syphillis that looks a lot like a cyst, but "dealing with it" yourself doesn't get rid of what you don't see, the infection that attacks your organs and can even cause death. A single shot of penicillin will kill the "cyst" and the infection that can kill you! The other alarming part is if you get rid of the visual part of the infection, and then have sex with your partner, now she has syphilis too, and so does the next guy that has deceits her!

I've had one of these, too, and my Lord does it suck. But here's the thing: I got my first one in college and of course it got infected...man, was it painful. Went to see a urologist, who gave me some antibiotics to take for a couple of weeks before I saw him again to get it removed surgically. That was all find and good, but it came back within about a year, and left a pretty unsightly scar. So, I'm not sure that whole ordeal was really worth it.
After it recurred, though, it didn't really bother me (except for the appearance thing) for 12 years or so, but grew somewhat steadily. So fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, when I must've bumped it or something during recreation and that caused some irritation. Started to get sort of red and painful. Fearing that I might go through the same ordeal as before, I started calling around to urologists in a new area I just moved to, but of course couldn't get in for MONTHS. Thought about going to urgent care, but not sure what their level of expertise is with stuff in this sensitive location. Unable to just sit and wait for that long, I went to CVS and picked up some store brand ichthammol ointment and took it home to try. Put it on about 4 times and covered with a band-aid, but didn't see a difference, so I got disheartened and stopped. But it grew again, and my only alternative was to sit and wait, so I started being more diligent about using it. Reapplied about 4x/day and covered with a band-aid, and then mixed in a hot compress (a mix of a heating pad, hot damp towel, and baths) about 2x/day. I did that for about 10 days, and slowly, the skin covering the cyst started to open (which was scar tissue, mind you, from the earlier surgery, so it was pretty tough). And then one morning it opened just enough that it popped out! Done deal!
There's a little bit of a hole there now, so I'll report back about how well it heals up and whether or not it recurs, but seriously, I was SO relieved that this solution seems to have worked. For now, covering with antibiotic ointment and a band-aid a few times a day and seems to be healing up fine. Let's hope it looks a bit better in the end, too. I'll keep you posted!
