I'm almost 20 years old and I'm a female. There is something very wrong with my heart. I can remember this happening as far back as when I was ten...every now and then I will get an extreme pain in my chest area. It is usally just when I am sitting down or not being very physically active. It feels like someone is stabbing me and it's very intense but usually just lasts 10-20 seconds. I never know when it will happen; sometimes it's a few times a week...or a few times a month..or every few months. It's very strange, I know it isn't normal and I really think that I can't keep ignoring it. I don't have health insurance at the moment so I can't afford to go to the cardiologist. I've looked at heart problems and I can't seem to find anything that really fits what I described besides angina and I think I'm too young for that. I just want to figure out if this is life-threatening or something that can be taken care of with medicine, it's really scaring me. I have a two year old son and I'm married and I really want to be around to watch my son grow and spend time with my loved ones. Not only that - I'm going to school to be a CRNA! So hopefully I can figure this out and get it under control to go on to pursue my dreams.

Hi:
Considering you've had this problem for years and you've gone thru childbirth, etc., I wouldn't panic. It seems that something really serious would have been detected by some doctor, especially when you were going thru your pregnancy and childbirth. However, there are conditions that go undetected. Your stress is not good for your condition. It sounds like perhaps it has gotten worse, but your adult problems have gotten bigger since you've gotten older. Really think about the stress factor. Stress can cause your body to do and feel strange things. To be safe, however, you shouldn't play with serious chest pain, if it's not stress and indigestion, or an allergic reaction to something. Check those things, but go to a clinic or a county hospital to get some answers (without insurance). They will be able to help you, without insurance. I hope you will be feeling better soon. Get some answers. Let us know.
