Hello, I have had the EXACT same symptoms for the past 8 months, I have had ultra sounds showing reactive lymph nodes, but the doctors keep telling me that's normal, it doesn't feel normal though, I do also smoke and sometimes at night I would feel the air pocket on my right side expand when I would inhale, I would instantly push the side of my throat and it would slowly go down, I have held my sneezes in for my entire life too, didn't know that everyone else let them go , didn't even know you could until now lol. Everytime I see a doctor they kinda shrug it off so I am not sure what to make of it, have you been diagnosed?

I had this same thing happen. It came on gradually. I would occasionally sneeze and when I did I noticed the pain in my throat. Then allergy season rolled around, and suddenly it felt like I had a swollen or pulled muscle in my throat, along with it being raw. Now, the pulled muscle feeling is gone and it's just a little sore. I used to smoke electronic cigarettes, and was paranoid it was something from that. After googling some, it was kind of related to post-nasal-drip, so I broke apart a clove of garlic and dipped it in sabra red pepper hummus and ate it while watching tv. I am hoping it's just some kind of annoying viral infection that can be easily defeated. The fact someone says they had bad breath leads me to believe so. I also have heard of a buildup of bits of food getting stuck in the throat and becoming toxic. The garlic seems to have helped, but I'll keep you all posted about the outcome. So far I Have had this pain for about a week and ate the garlic today. The garlic will not, however, help with the bad breath issue.

Change your daily routine of what you eat and drink. - I did this because it's possible it was also an allergic reaction to something I was eating and drinking every day.
Buy some Sabra hummus, or some other hummus, and eat and entire head of garlic. ( I wrote clove in my previous post, but I meant head of garlic).
You may wake up feeling really bad the next morning, but once you get through that you might feel alot better. I really did. I am guessing it might be some kind of virus because of the horrible headache and weird feeling I had. I know sometimes when viruses are being attacked you can get a queasy feeling and headache.
Anyways, hope it works for some people.

I'm no doctor, but it could possibly be mono.

Everything you have all stated, i also am actually currently suffering from. And after two trips to both the GP and A&E, their responses were very similar: "They can't see any serious infection, other than a little reddening." "My glands aren't raised", and that, "it might be muscular."
After these unhelpful diagnoses, i decided to conduct my own research on the specific area of my injury. The pain most of us are experiencing of late, seems to be based about the: Omohyoideus, muscle within the neck; and more than likely (just like most muscles) there will be a 6 - 8 week recovery window, before your back to normal. I'm currently on 15mg of Co-codamol; highlighting just how painful this injury actually is. I have also read on this forum, of the scepticism of how painful this injury actually is. I bench 200kg, pull 240kg and jog 10 miles once a week; and this affliction has pretty much put me on the broken-toy shelf (unless the co-codamol, masks the pain completely.) for a month or so.
So in all seriousness guys, take your time recovering from this injury, and hopefully you'll be having a better New Year.
All the Best!
