Tear in throat, broken blood vessel in eye, cracked rib, broken blood vessel in brain (aneurysm), among other things.
I was in a work truck with a partner and had my hands full. I’ll never do it again this hurts so bad. I’ve tried Aleve, cough drops, ice cream, hot rags, and anything else I could think of. Hurts to talk a lot, especially hurts to swallow.
I tried manipulating the larynx/Adam’s Apple in side to side and circular gentle movements with limited success. I did hear a little bit of clicking while doing that. It brought some relief, although not complete and permanent. Still hurts to swallow.
Good luck to everyone who has posted, and who will post in the future. I can’t believe nobody has warned about this. Ouch.

So I came across this thread and it was essentially the ONLY thing I could find online that resembled my symptoms. And boy did it! I sneezed weird, felt pain, later swallowed and heard the crack. The pain was brutal. But you guys offered no real answer. That one non-ENT Dr was the closest.Vocal rest and hot liquids for the next two days helped, but I went to my ENT today. Well, my new Dr friend put a scope up my nose to see down my throat and I have a hemorrhage of a vocal cord. Could’ve been the sneeze, the snap or both, but it was enough trauma to pop a blood vessel in my vocal fold. So now I’m in vocal rest (as much as humanly and professionally possible) and hydration for the next 4-6 weeks ish. Anyone who has any advice or tips on treatment/things to avoid while I try not to speak, that would be appreciated! Gotta figure out how to parent a 3 yr old without using my words, wish me luck.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing pain when you sneeze and swallow. It's possible that you may have strained a muscle or irritated your throat when you held in a sneeze.
There are some things you can do to help alleviate your symptoms:
1. Avoid holding in your sneezes: While it may seem polite to hold in a sneeze, it can actually be harmful to your body. When you hold in a sneeze, the pressure from the sneeze can cause damage to your throat or ears.
2. Rest your throat: Try to avoid speaking loudly or shouting, and avoid eating or drinking anything that may irritate your throat, such as acidic or spicy foods.
3. Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help soothe your throat and keep it hydrated.
4. Try over-the-counter pain relievers: Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, may help alleviate your pain.
I would recommend that you speak with your doctorabout your symptoms. He may suggest additional treatments, such as throat lozenges or prescription medications, to help alleviate your pain and discomfort.
